Do you want your comics to simply do fine?
You articulate that better than I can... and I agree completely.
Transformers has a ceiling.
"Flanderisation" has set in a long time ago and now anything that's not heroic posturing, foax deep thinking and stoic speeches is seen as out of character. G1 prime was kinda chill and even could tell a joke. He did those other things too and as you say he was relatable. Now probably with writers that care a lot about their take on prime he's kinda lost a lot of his charm.
True. As does everything. But I think this product is missing the mark.
About as badly as Marvel is, soooo... maybe comics are just doomed
Can we talk about the cover where Starscream is playing with ponies and how adorable it is?
Is this a joke or is it a reference in the style of "errors animation G1"?
Seeing Swindle and Brawl makes me hope Bruticus will show up too.
Maybe the Autobots aren’t safe from possession either...
Well no, they're changing. Physical distribution of everything is on the way out being supplanted by Netflix, Steam and Comixology. Plus Transformers comics just aren't as successful for two reasons, one general comics audiences in the west want superheroes and Transformers is super adjacent, but it's not that and 2 Transformers is generally thought of as an on-screen franchise and there are less fans willing to spend a monthly fee to consume its stories and nothing else.
Peak comic sales was in the 90s. This was due to a speculation boom that ended up being bad for the industry overall. Back then series could be cancelled if they weren't selling in the millions. Now an issue is the top-selling comic of the year if it hits 700k.
All of that being said, the current comics do have pretty big issues (HAHAHA) from what I've heard, but comics just don't sell on paper that much anymore across the board.
IDW’s Transformers Beast Wars: Issue #4 Khanna Retailer Incentive Cover Artwork - Transformers News - TFW2005
I love Dan Khanna\'s work! Talked to him numerous times at conventions and he\'s the nicest guy. Awesome to see him back doing some covers. He did great work with the club back in the day.
Yeah, it’s funny this popped up, I had just been looking at some of his work and wondering what happened to him.
very interesting, so its a buddy up between dinobot and nyx, and likely her testimony alone is what gets him a reluctant spot on the maximals. i actually like it
I foresee people shipping Dinobot and Nyx.
You say that like it hasn't already happened.
That cover looks great, I have yet to read any of the new BW comic, is this the art style of the comic? Ive seen quite a few different art styles
TFW has posted up preview pages from the first four issues of the BW comic so far - Comics - Transformers News - TFW2005
As for your question, Josh Burcham is the interior artist for the BW comic. He's been around for a while now, but I would describe his art style as being very 2 dimensional (flat)... which you can see in the preview postings on that link above.
Having a gorgeous variant cover done by legendary Dan Khanna is a bit of a tease, with a beautifully detailed cover hiding a fairly featureless flat artwork inside.
(there are probably fans of Burcham's artwork here, and I'm not saying that to pick a fight with them... I'm just not a fan of his work)
Somehow, in Cover R1, I'm seeing a bit of a Spaceballs moment here...
