Nothing against the artists themselves, but I have to wonder why editorial is hiring so many artists with similar styles.

So, I picked up the first issue of Escape a few days ago, but I haven't read it yet, because I'm a bit behind on the main series. What issue should I be at in the main series before I start Escape?

Huh, it's interesting how they're actually making the inconsistent geography of BW's Earth part of the mystery here. I mean, in the original show we all forgave them making an arctic tundra within a day's walk of an African style savannah and all the the animals and fossil scanned for beast modes which are all found in different regions in real life all being relatively close to each other because it's a cartoon about transforming animal robots made to sell toys to children to don't think too hard about it, about having the characters actually point it out makes me wonder if this planet really is Earth in this continuity...

So what is the deal here? Are they retelling the BW story the way that the original Marvel series did its own take on the G1 story? Or is this supposed to tell tales between the episodes, like Star Wars comics between the films?

A pre-transmetal Rampage showing up earlier than he did in the show would be nice.

I really liked issues 1! It's all setup so the story hasn't had time to deviate from the cartoon too much yet, except for the addition of new crew members.

According to the creators, it's similar to "Ultimates."

There will be small differences at first, and then things will begin to divert more and more from the original.

Basically, elements from the show may still occur, but don't use the show as a guide to assume what will happen.

    ----

Love the bit of added lore that their organic alt modes serve a practical purpose outside of Energon shielding. The idea they can use it to process organic matter as fuel is interesting. And it's something they could borrow down the road for a live action BW movie.

Add me to the list of people that likes the whole "their beast modes allow them to consume organic matter" bit. I know Transformers have been overhumanized in a lot of recent TF media but it works here because they've been rendered partially organic themselves. Also maybe this way the comic can serve as a vehicle for cool animal facts because let's be real, no one is ever really too old for cool animal facts.

The dialogue is really unnatural and verbose, especially coming from a guy like Rattrap. I feel like we didn’t need such a detailed explanation of why they eat food. The original show didn’t even bother, the characters all just are and everyone knew why and how. Just have something simple like:

    “Rattrap, what are you doing?”

“I found this fruit, it’s pretty good! And it beats waiting for Energon to process.”

Boom, didn’t need a paragraph. I also don’t like what a stubborn dick they’re making Rhinox out to be. Usually older, more experienced individuals are more easygoing and open minded. I feel like the concern should be more over Rattrap just eating strange fruit he found rather than the audacity of eating itself. Even Beast Machines managed to have virtually the same exact conversation only more succinct.
