A minor peeve I've just developed is the varying sizes with character scaling. I know that Transfromers as a franchise has a difficulty in keeping scale, but there's got to be a way to keep track of everyone's size. I remember that Red Goblin did a movie scale chart with all of the Transformers since the first movie. (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-movie-discussion/966670-aoe-scale-chart-thread-35.html) So is it possible for someone to do a similar scale chart for the new IDW comic character iterations?

All I can say is good luck. You won't reach a consensus, especially when the gestalts, Lost Light and Metrotitans are thrown in.

 

I wasn't really planning on doing it. I was hoping that some god among photoshoppers to come by and help us in this request that's bothering us since the introduction of mass displacement in IDW's TF storylines. The simple one I can think of is that Prime is a bit smaller than Megatron, Bee's smaller than Prime, and somewhere down the line the DJD are a speculator's nightmare. If we can take into account the movie size charts, this could be simple. We just need someone to find scans and pngs of bots in a standing position.

 

once upon a time Alex Milne said on these forms he would actually draw a scale chart for the IDW verse - it was during dark Cybertron, in the discussion of the issue were he drew that awesome splash page with EVERYONE gathering together after Megatron helped Metroplex defeat the necrotitan.

as awesome as it works be of him to draw that, it's a lot of work just to keep us fans happy.... but it would be awesome

 

I would love that but the IDW cast are pretty huge. Omega Supreme and gestalts are around 300 feet (See All Hail Megatron) and Metroplex is 5000+ feet (see Dark Cybertron and Windbladd). There is a lot of Mass displacement going on. Optimus and Megatron seem to be around 50 feet tall.

 

Yeah, and in the latest issue "Transformers" Fairborn said something about not wanting to be chased around by 30 meter robots. While that's probably a rough estimate of the majority of normal sized bots. ( It may have actually been feet) I also think these guys are bigger than most continuity barring the movies.

 

They definitely tower over the movie cast. It is just really hard to scale them considering that it varies so much (depending on artist), but I would say that they are all around bigger then all the other current continuities.

 

Do the size comparisons from IDW to the Bay films are much of a difference? I imagine that they'd be similar with the exception of the IDW combiners being almost Kaiju sized.

Well in All Hail Megatron Omega and Devestator are seen fighting next to the statue of liberty, they are taller then it from base to torch. From this we can assess that combiners stand 300+ feet.

Megatron swatted an F22 that appeared about his size which puts Megatron conservatively at about 45 feet (compared to movie Megatron's noticeably large, when compared to other movie bots, 36 feet. Plus recent RID comics have shown Thundercracker (as well as the cone/clone heads) transforming with no sign of mass shifting between modes. So roughly I would say;

Titans
10,000 feet (Windblade stated Metroplex was miles high so more then 1 mile)

Combiners
300 feet

Optimus/Galvatron/Megatron/Seekers/Soundwave/Cosmos
40-45 feet

Constructions
30-35 feet

Prowl/Arcee/Kup/Sideswipe/Jazz
25-30 feet

Again guesstimates, but definitely in the ball park.

 

Idw is not consistent from artist to artist or book to book. Powerglide and cosmos were both recently greatly reduced in size. Also guys like trailbreaker and ratchet have been downsized to before carbot sized so good luck

 

I kind of stand by that they are kind of movie-sized to ease out the different sizes from artists.

Truck/Tank/Jet/Train-formers(Prime/Ultra Magnus/Galvatron/Megatron/Seekers/Constructicons)= 25-40ft

Car-fromers(Bee/Soundwave/Prowl/Jazz/Trailbreaker/Rodimus)= 16-24ft

Devastator= 500ft If All Hail Megatron and RiD mean anything

Superion= 400/450ft

Menasor= 300ft

Metroplex= New York?

I think the Combiner scales are off here. Yeah, they're huge... but 500 feet is REALLY huge. Devastator would be much bigger than Godzilla at that height. But this IS IDW we're talking about. A more realistic take on combiners would probably put them around 80-100 feet.

Definitely agree with the others though.

 

How can Devastator be 500ft tall is 1 constructicon is 40ft tall?

Combiners do involve size changing. When Prowl became part of Devastator, and when he was ripped from it, the difference was clear.
