Good. This is absolutely the right decision. The Transformers franchise was always best when he was in charge.

 

I have no doubt they're going to try for the shared universe again. However if it's all planned from the start, I feel that it can work a lot better. Trying to shoehorn everything into an existing continuity was destined to not work long-term. I have faith that Barber's the right person to make it work if that's the plan.

 

I thought Barber took a break?

 

He stepped down as the Hasbro group editor and was just writing freelance for both IDW and other companies. Now he's back.

Comics do well, more toys sold, more media made, means more funds for more endeavors and more toys.

Truly, today is a momentous day for Transformers comics.

 

Damnit, I was hoping I'd be able to jump ship after the end of the current continuity, but now it looks like I'm still going to be spending money on transformers comics for the foreseeable future. Regardless, I can't think of a better man for the job, so congrats Mr. Barber!

He was a superb editor at the height of the golden era of IDW comics and a drop in quality when he took a step back.

I understand the excitement over a Transformers guy being made EIC. However, I'm still skeptical IDW can deliver a Transformers comic everyone can enjoy. I haven't given IDW 1 red cent since last year. But I want to see what the new comics will be like.

I'll just have to reserve judgement. I'll give the reboot 6 issues before I decide.

 

Let's be clear. It's not just that he's "a Transformers guy." It's because he's specifically proven himself good at the job of editing. We who are Transformers fans may simply be aware of this fact in a way that fans of other IDW franchises may not yet have found out.

 

And so it came to pass that IDW never again published a single continuity error, for John Barber, Master of Continuity, had destroyed them all.

In all seriousness though, congratulations John Barber. Couldn’t have asked for a better person to fill the role. His writing might not always be at its best, but his ability to oversee the big picture is like no other writer I’ve ever seen, so I know he’ll be fantastic. Can’t wait to see where IDW goes under his leadership.

Congratulations Barber!
He was able to streamline/fix the continuity and error landmines that were the movieverse and phase 1, and did so much world-building out of the current IDW-verse. He's going to be able to oversee a new Tf-verse (and probably Hasbro-verse by extension), and i've gone from optimistic but cautious to excited and terrified (OP #18) for the reboot.

John Barber? Count of Continuity? Prince of Progression? Father of Flow? As Editor-in-Chief? Yeah, that's good.

 

This is great news! Barber sometimes drops the ball as a writer but as an editor and... continuity supervisor (?) he's always done a fantastic job. This bodes well for the upcoming reboot and hopefully it means we won't have to deal with all of the inconsistencies and confusing continuity of the early IDW Transformers comics.

 

Such a rarity, should be marked as a milestone. An actual till all are one moment with the fans. Never thought it possible. xD
