Found a series of 4 mini packs containing mini reprints of IDW comics, a temporary tattoo, a sticker, and a fold out poster. Each pack was themed around a specific character: Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Bumblebee, and Drift. The Optimus and Bumblebee comics were the same as the ones in the IDW deluxe figures, but the Grimlock and Drift ones were not ones I've seen. The Grimlock one features Shockwave and tells a story similar to the old Marvel Dinobot/Shockwave arrival on Earth story and the Drift one seems to be a backstory/introduction one that ends with Kup offering him a place on the Autobot team.
From your descriptions, the Grimlock issue is 'Spotlight: Shockwave' and the Drift one is 'Spotlight: Drift'. Intrigued by the use of SL: Orion Pax for the Optimus Prime pack, considering said issue doesn't really feature Optimus.
Saw thse at BotCon, spoke wit John Barber and yes, he told me that the Grimlock one is indeed Spotlight Shockwave
Has there been any mention that these are all names in common with AOE characters, or am I reading too much into this? What with Hasbro's press material indicating that the Generations line is more geared towards collectors and that lines collaboration with IDW, these packs seem like an interesting way to get more fans into the loop.
Oh, yes, these are definitely intended to capitalise on AOE, same as the 'Director's Cut' of Spotlight: Drift that came out last month.
Are these new variant covers compared the the original releases? They look like it...and is that Livio's work?
The cover on the Drift pack looks like a recolored version of the recently released Spotlight: Drift Director's Cut's cover.
