Nah, plenty of IDW's OCs are just bad. Like, Prequel Trilogy levels of bad.

See, this is what I find amusing about Windblade fans: it's not just that some people really don't like the character, they have to be wrong or twisted somehow. Finding a specific character annoying or offputting suddenly becomes an issue of morality or intellect. It reminds me of Dana Carvey's Church Lady routine from SNL.

And before you or anyone else goes "but you don't understand how it feels to see people complain about a character you like all the time..." My favorite character is Rodimus Prime, the most divisive and controversial G1 character. To this day we have people come onto this board to argue that he should've been executed for treason. Windblade fans ain't got jack on us Rodimus fans, when it comes to dealing with liking an unpopular character.

The opposite for me. I love it. It has a Progressive Rock Album cover from the 80’s vibe. Looks like European Diaclone artwork.

    Out of all the covers, Milne\'s is still to me the best way that I prefer to look at Transformers. I am very much not fond of these vintage looking or propaganda style art. Maybe it\'s ok for covers, but please let\'s get Milne do full art again ;_;

Windblade has all the complaints that Drift had when he was introduced but she got a pass for some reason.

Yeah switch that word for “controversial” for polarizing and you’d be right with your statement. He’s not a controversial character. He’s got some bad history but that’s thanks to people once again not wanting change. No one wanted anyone to replace Optimus Prime and that poor character will never be removed from that spot he was put in. But that all stems from the cartoon in the 80s. One season. There’s plenty of other fiction in 30 years that has painted Rodimus as a good character and that’s what he is. I got plenty of friends that don’t like Rodimus prime and will hiss when they see a new toy but they’re also casual fans that only remember the cartoon so I really don’t give a damn about their opinion when they haven’t see other fiction with him.

Windblade is again a polarized character but I still chalk that up to a bunch of fat nerds who just don’t want her on their shelf and claim she hasn’t earned her place. She’s had plenty of solid roles in other fiction and I’m not even someone who’s a fan of hers but I defend her right to be next to Optimus others because honestly you don’t like her, great go read the 30 years of cartoons and toys you do like but 6 years of bitching about her inclusion is just petty

For some reason beyond my understanding, I love things that are hated on.

I mostly collect G2, I am Hot Rod fan and I like Windblade and Drift.

Hence why I don’t post any comments that often.

THIS. If a character comes off crap, then it's the writer and editors fault.

Because drift was unfortunately forced down everyone’s throats and was a “check out my awesome OC,he’s got swords and is the best at what he does” with him being tossed on every cover and even getting put in a children’s book promoting little SD figures. Figures he didn’t even have one in!

But I’m just playing devils advocate with drift. I personally enjoyed him when he debuted. What i just said is what the observation was of him. His hate was due to him pushed so hard without even having a toy till 2010.

Windblade is a fan made character. She was created by the fans which doesnt warrant her being compared.

Except her design and personality don't match what the fans gave her. Honestly, the fact that you're this close to self-awareness is funny.

I once heard that it was actually a knight-inspired design that won the voting and Hasbro decided to go for a geisha-inspired design instead, but I was never able to dig much up on the competition so I don't know if it's true?

Out of curiousity, could fans vote on her personality?

Yep, and the Geisha look was not something that people voted for. She was supposed to be a valiant warrior with broad telepathic powers, and not Auto-weeb 2.0.

Except she does have telepathic powers. That’s what being a city speaker is and she was portrayed as a valiant warrior in RID and in Cyberverse.

Okay, I just got hit with the image of Windblade as a stereotypical caveman and it alternates between being hilarious and adorable. Kinda like Eep from the Croods.

Grumpy's pretty funny too. Constantly complaining under her breath about everyone and everything.

So a female robot knight with telepathic powers? Shit, that sounds awesome. Like a sci fi version of Brienne of Tarth with the powers of Soundwave.

Yeah, I guess that's true. Maybe I need to watch some more of Cyberverse because she just didn't feel that different from standard action-y female characters in the episodes I watched. Just kinda run of the mill and her dynamic with Bumblebee didn't really help.

Valiant warrior feels like it should be more than just someone who fights since it's a war which means that everyone fights. Every female Autobot (and Decepticon) is basically a valiant warrior by that definition so it isn't really something that sets her apart. It's the default trait for most with a few exceptions like First Aid.

Brienne of Tarth and Samurai Jack are good examples of characters where "valiant warrior" is a central part of their identity and something that sets them apart from others. It's not about how much tailpipe they can kick but about how that part of them influences how they think, feel and act. It's a lifestyle choice: something their life is partly or wholly shaped around. You can't remove it from their character without fundamentally changing their character.

She was supposed to have a broad range of telepathic powers, not just the mostly pointless city speaking.
