IDW’s Transformers Comics Solicitations: February 2021 - Transformers News - TFW2005
Some cool looking covers all around... but man that one cover with Hound and Wheel jack with the movie style eyes is freakin\' me out a little.
If nothing else I'm looking forward to all the amazing covers the BW comics will have.
I really can't wait to see what a Beast Wars ongoing series will be like. Excited for this!
Trickdiamond?? I can’t believe they’re using a UW original character! I may have to check it out.
she’s already appeared 6 months ago as one of swindles partners in his business
I'm pretty excited to see Beast Wars get a new comic series. We've been sorely lacking new Beast Wars material. It may not be a new cartoon, but I'll take it!
not really. We’ve been getting masterpiece figures for the past few years, they’ve been scattered throughout the last 12 years of CHUG lines, cheetor was a main character in the last cartoon, and primal in the prime wars trilogy, funpub used beast wars since they took over the fan club and the entire main cast of beast wars was scattered through the previous IDW verse. Beast wars has been all over the place for over a decade
I just realized something. Are they going to have Optimus Primal fly in this or will the air-based reconnaissance work be left to just Nyx?
I believe @AnnoyedRobot means, there has not been a dedicated comic or series for Beast Wars since the miniseries in 2007. There have been the inclusion of Beast Wars characters throughout IDW's comics since then, but integrated into modern tales. Rattrap as Starscream's advisor as an example. While he is originally a "Beast Wars" character, there is no reference or implication of said origin in modern story.
That being said, aside from the Beast Wars Sourcebook, no, there has not been a ongoing "Beast Wars" storyline since 2007.
thats not true. IDW rattrap is actually actually more based on his original characteristic from his toy bio which detailed him being able to sneak his way in and around anywhere and also smelling extremely bad. Something that the IDW version excelled and was pointed out numerously. The thing IDW did take from his cartoon self is his selfishness . Rattrap in season one batted head repeatedly with everyone because he wasn’t a team player and only thought of himself. Something that was taken and amped up in IDW with the one character he’d fit perfectly with which was starscream
it’s his history in the show and his evolution that changed him but he very much was like his toy and what IDW did with him originally at the beginning of the show
Well, first, I tagged the wrong user. Second, the point was that there has not been a dedicated ongoing Beast Wars series. You're making the wrong argument. There is no argument that Beast Wars characters have been used in the past decade in various medium, but last anyone saw, there has not been any comic, show, or toyline solely dedicated to Beast Wars.
That being said the new Kingdom toy series is the closest we've gotten since then.
The thing is and I’ll admit I’m worried with this series is that beast wars is so tightly done and done well that making more is a gamble. The problem with the first couple books we did get tried to play in the continuity and arguably was a detriment to it. Yes there’s always the argument of “well we don’t know how much time passes in beast wars and there could be characters and adventures done between episodes” that’s cheap. Personally I think it’s cheap. Story wise beast wars is pretty perfect so I think honestly leaving it alone has been a good thing because it was only three season and whatever comes out is going to be compared to it. I think that’s why it’s not been brought back in comics almost at all. If you’re bringing beast wars back don’t put it in the same continuity. Reboot it and take the shield invincibility off the characters and make them vulnerable to the stories because if this is set in the cartoons continuity than who cares because you know where it’s going to go.
and I know you tagged the wrong person but it doesn’t change the fact certain characters characterization were being being based on a form of their source material
Hound on that Transformers: Escape cover almost looks like younger Jimmy Stewart!
(who his voice was based on)
I stopped getting the new comics when I literally fell asleep reading an issue in bed on my iPad. Cool to know that they’re using relatively obscure characters.
What is Starscream doing, given that Megatron does not have ears to whisper into?
Probably whispering in his audio receptors.
Super short range direct communication, like NFC possibly? To prevent eavesdropping?
Can't say I'm excited about the prospect of the BW comic being "the show but a comic" judging by that plot summary.
