Anybody else smell the Winds Of Change gathering?
Think we\'re about to watch history repeat itself yet again.
Question: which company would you like the TF comic license
to go to next? If it were up to me I\'d hire James Roberts to overseea company dedicated entirely to nothing but Transformers fiction.

I doubt it, IDW has had it longer than anybody ever.

According to solicits he did a cover for Wreckers #1 that hasn't been shown yet, so it's probably just that.

Pretty unlikely for now, I think. IDW seems to have perpetual financial trouble and executive churn, but for as long as their publishing arm is still ticking over, they're unlikely to drop the license themselves, and Hasbro clearly has no issues working with them - even just recently they're directly collaborating to include pack-in comics with the new Shattered Glass toys.

Given Roberts has literally no comics industry experience beyond writing as a freelancer, I think him overseeing an entire company would be, uh, a bit of a pipe dream to say the least.

If IDW were to ever go belly-up, Boom is probably one of the most likely candidates to pick up the Transformers license.

I'd choose Dark Horse. Mostly because I see them giving us grittier, more '05 IDWverse esque stories.
Of course, I understand that depends o 1200px-Dark_Horse_Comics_logo.svg.png n the creative teams they assemble. God, imagine it.

Toy accuracy can eat me. CHUG doesn't need tie in fiction.

IDW2019 (and frankly, IDW in general) reads much, much better in collected hardcover. Brian Ruckley is a prose novelist, after all.

But this is a Transformers board. Nothing positive is acceptable.

This will never happen. Even Marvel Comics would sink if they pulled everything from the shelves that wasn't Spidey. Comics are a rapidly changing industry. If the format is going to survive beyond the 2020s, it needs to change to:

    • Subscription model for digital comics. Marvel Unlimited is already doing this on a delay with newer comics. You can't tell me that $3.99 per comic has the same value as a Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Spotify etc subscription. Especially if there's an event going on with many tie ins (you know, "THE WORLD IS ENDING MUST READ"....until the next big event), the high price-per-content ratio just isn't worth it. Not to mention, floppies STILL have ads in them. Like WTF.
    • Trade Paperbacks/Hardcovers for physical media. Most comics are written for the trade/long-form storytelling anyways. Very, very few major properties are structured to be "one and done" comics like they were decades ago. Those days are long, long behind us. Personally, I still like having physical comic books to read.
    • Floppies will go the way of the dinosaur. Way too many titles on the stand. Way too much garbage that ends up in the recycling or trash anyway.

Is this hardcover the same as the IDW Collections for Phases 1-3 in suggested reading order, or is it more along the lines of a fancy TPB/omnibus?

More of a publishing order, the construction arc of galaxies takes place before the main series starts but it is in volume 2.

Do we know if IDW will do something similar to their collection volumes, or is this probably it? I ask because if this is it I should probably jump on these now before they’re hard to find, but I don’t want to spend several hundred dollars on hardcovers if they turn around and do collected volumes :lol  I know nobody probably knows for sure, but is this typical of IDW? I’m just now finding out the 2019 series was already starting to be collected
