I'm thinking about collecting some TFP Vehicon troops of both deluxe and legend size. What would be the ideal army configuration?

    All deluxe and zero legends.

There is no ideal army configuration, for you will always need more. The same goes for Beast Machines Vehicons, Scourge's Sweeps, the ironically named Noisemaze Mass Production type, Scrapmetals of all colors, Insecticons, etc. :p

    And I respectfully disagree.
Troop building the Legion figures, both jet and car, is insanely satisfying. At one point, I had around 30 to 40 cars and over 20 jets. It looked so impressive with them all arranged in ranks.

I suppose. It's just for the price, size and articulation, I'd rather invest in other figures. Like Mega Blok troops.
Just look at them, hanging out, being cool:

I bought a 20 figure lot off of eBay that was a third of the guy's army.

I'd say there is no ideal. Do what you want, and get what you want. I'd be more biased towards the deluxe ones, though. If you were wanting to be interesting, if you got some first edition ones, you could use them as squad leaders.

    Ebay:
I tend to go 6 for troop builders, 2 squads of 3 or a squad of six with a commander. Makes a good visual effect that there's a bunch at a lower cost.

To me there isn't such thing as too many, that's why I limit myself to 6. I do collect multiples of 3, so whatever I collect will be divisible by 3.

i lost count of mine two moves ago but it was something like:

    2-5 vehicons per team/2 teams (4-10)
    1 1st edition vehicon squad leader (2)
    1 Jet Vehicon (platoon sergeant)
1 Jet Vehicon general (platoon leader)

edit: i see there's a ground vehicon general available now. throw him in the leadership heirarchy...executive officer or something.

    My current lineup is
    2x american retail car vehicon
    1 first edition
    1 jet vehicon
    1 jet vehicon general
1 each of the Dread Pirate Crew.
And I intend on snagging an Arms Micron and Adventure Vehicon. To finish the set and have a half decent squad

Depends on how much shelf space you have. For me I don't think I would ever go over three.

It all depends mainly in $$$ AND space.
If you have the money I don't see why you shouldn't get as many as you like.
Also if you have a big display space to show them off ,that could end up looking amazing!

Other than that,in my own opinion,I went through army building, but decided soon after that I was missing out on other figures too.
So I sold some of them to get more funds.

I have 4 Vehicons, 3 Vehicon Generals, 3 Jet Vehicons, 2 Jet Vehicon Generals, and 2 2-packs of Botcon Clones. So 16 deluxe figures is the right size :D .

3 deluxes. Enough to show that they're generic troops but not so much that'll break the bank and hog a bunch of space.

I think 3 is the perfect size. Maybe get a Vehicon General (in white) to go with them as the leader.

If you are going for the cyber vurse size toys then go small.

if your going for classics or normal prime line then i suggest deluxes.

But here is what i did, FE vehicon, main line vehicon, air vehicon, legion vehicon with driller, legion air vehicon, im yet to get the grey versons, or the botcon ones but these are good enough, the deluxe versons fit on the driller if you stick there legs backwards

    I think 3-6 is a good size.

In my collection I have 25 in total, consisting of 6 RID, 2 FE, 2 AM-14, 3 AM-16 (jet), 2 cyberverse, 2 cyberverse jet, 2 micro-changers and 6 KREOs (2x of decepticon ambush). Hope to get a TAV28 Ground Vehicon General at some point.
