CHUG Voyager Stormcloud looks nothing like G1 Stormcloud and would have made more sense to repaint as Stormcloud's teammate from the Air Strike Patrol, Tailwind.

However, I do think, mainly due to the head, it could work as an updated Needlenose. I know it's a different type of jet to the G1 toy but a lot of modern updates take such liberties. What's important is that the toy captures the essence of the character.

I have considered getting a Needlenose type visor made on Shapeways but in the meantime I've played around with parts from other figures.

I found this crown, I believe is from Voyager Cybertron Starscream, and it fits on his head reasonably well.

It's not an exact match for the G1 head but I'm wondering would it work if I painted it?
