So.. if someone gave you one of these and told you to cut it up to your heart's content... What would you do with it? Mathius
It would be great to see a lot of replies on this one. I had something in mind and asked someone who is really big into historically accurate models what he used for tank treads on his stuff and he said, "I got something you can use!" I guess this goes for around $100. I'm not sure it will work for my original idea. It's pretty big and complex. So let me know what you guys think.. but the reason I popped in again was I wanted everyone to realize this thing is fully RC... The turret won't move right now without using the remote, it drives on the remote, and probably has all kinds of motors and other internals in it. The other ones like it on Ebay say they blow smoke even. I'm not sure if this one does. But anything I do is subject to possibly having to remove those motors. I'm debating right now if there's a way to salvage some of the RC functions if I go a kitbash route or if I should just use the shell and hold on to the RC stuff for some other project. Anyways, please continue. I'm interesting in your ideas. Mathius
I dunno if you could keep the internals and kbash it. As in to accomadate for a robot I imagine you'd need to make space inside. That said I'm not great when it comes to stuff like this, so maybe the more skilled would know how. Although it would be interesting if you could use the r/c to activate other features instead, like lights and the smoke sounds interesting. I'd say he'd do very well for a Brawl or get a large plane model and make yourself a Flywheels. Or it could make for the legs of an Overlord custom.
I'd sell it and use the profit to buy other custom fodder, myself. It might be possible with a lot of work to make an awesome figure out of that, but without an idea before hand I wouldn't cut up anything, whereas I have several other projects I need materials for that could better use the money.
That is a beautiful kit, but i dare say that there's probably a non-remote control version that's cheaper. Sell this one, buy one that lacks the internals, and use the extra money on something else. I'm not sure if you could actually bash that to keep the internal mechanisms working. The robot parts have to go somewhere. Also, how big is it? That will determine what base you need. My only suggestion is that you bash a fully working MG Guntank out of this, with this model, and a MG Guntank kit. Would be very cool.
It's 1/16th scale, so think big. Like pre-2002 GI Joes. (3.75") Part of me is thinking the same as you. Internals would have to go and maybe this isn't the right use for this. But maybe someone will think outside the box. On the other hand, it WOULD make a damn impressive Overlord if I found a Jet big enough (Probably have to go GI Joe again). The problem I'm having right now, is it's only worth $100 to someone who wants to pay $100 for it and Ebay is apparently flooded with them. I have no problem taking less, since it was more or less free, but on the other hand I don't want to give it away since it does apparently have some value and is allegedly a historically accurate German Tiger1 tank. (My friend scoffed at me when I asked what it was, and then what country. Duh, it's Germany!) More ideas welcome. Thanks guys, keep'm coming. Mathius
