Wow. Lots of interesting stuff in that article. I'll admit that even with my knowledge of planetary studies this is the first time I'd heard of a Brown Dwarf. Fascinating.

So that's what they're calling stars that fail to ignite now: a brown dwarf. Interesting. For awhile it was theorized Jupiter was a failed star but it seems even the definition of yore has changed. Cool. Love reading articles that just get to the point.

If Jupiter were to ever turn into a star, even a small one, it's mass would need to be increased to over 43X the current mass it has.

Guys, the term "brown dwarf" for this kind of exoplanet has been around since 1975. I learned about that back in middle school while thumbing through books about astronomy in the school library. As libraries continue to shrink, it kind of sickens me to think some of you haven't had the pleasure of browsing through a giant room full of books dedicated to subjects you might have a passing interest in to learn about these kind of things... :(

Now we wikisurf for that. I had heard the term brown dwarf before, but I am unsure if it's magnetic qualities are normal or if we already knew about these properties before having such a close specimen to examine.
