For me it was because they "morphed" instead of Transformed. The morphing was something I was afraid that they would do in the first movie, till I saw the trailer. As long as the KSI bots are a one and done, I'll be okay, unless they actually transform.

I've been noticing this trend...old CGI for some reason is aging way better than the new stuff. Anybody have insight into this?

2007 aged better than the recent TF movies....
even the old LOTR movies look more realistic than much of the Hobbit did :/

I think 2007 looks better because they had more time to work on it.
As for LOTR and the Hobbit, I'm not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's the same case.

^ Seriously. Just look at iron man the originals suit and the first avengers movie compared to some of the cg in the newer ones like Age of Ultron and such. it looks way better in the first.

I wonder if they were just more audacious and determined to prove what they could achieve. They set the bar high expecting the technology to become more efficient and cheaper, but instead as demand for more and better CG grew, the manpower costs and uncertainty of the movie industry have made it impossible to maintain and increase the photo realistic standards set 10 years ago.

    That's my guess. :lol

It was said that it took 36 hours to render one frame of CGI in that film.

My problem is that it doesn't really translate into good figures.

Captain America Civil war's CGI war was atrocious in my opinion.

^I agree so much. Compared to avengers and Iron man and iron man 2. It looks really outdated.

It was a stupid way to save money and they tried to do something different and it failed.

Did you think so? A couple of times Black Panther was a bit off, but i thought it was pretty successful otherwise. That whole airport scene was like 99% cg, you couldnt tell... could you?

I'll have to have a closer look.

I thought it looked fine. The part of civil War that did look horrible was the foot chase scene with Bucky, Cap and Black Panther. The CG for them running though traffic like that was Bad! Their feet and legs looked like an old school cartoon where the legs are running faster than their body lol.

It does kind of feel like there was kind of a sweet spot of Hollywood CGI. The early stuff was pretty horrible, the Star Wars prequel stuff was down right ugly. But for a little while it seemed like Hollywood was doing some really nice CGI. Now it's like they don't care about the quality any more and too much of the Hollywood CGI feels like studios cutting corners because in the flood of CGI why not be part of the herd rather than leading the pack?

What should be scary for Hollywood is that while too much of their CGI is sliding lower in quality the CGI in Chinese films is getting better. Chinese CGI used to look as bad as a Syfy movie of the week but quality keeps getting better. They still aren't up to the best of Hollywood standards but it feels like they will catch up quickly if Hollywood doesn't raise their game.

Iron man's 'helmet-less' scenes were the biggey. Compared to the realistic look of the 2007 Transformers , like the observatory scene, the Airport battle was a bit iffy IMO.

Kinda always thought that the KSI bots were made in China, that's why they looked that way
