Maybe that's we'll get when Hasbro decides to crossover TF with another series again:

    Pikabee or Bumblechu

Well, David Kaye himself said that Animated Grimlock's vocal delivery draws a lot from the version of Frankenstein played by Phil Hartman on Saturday Night Live.

This thread pretty much proves that homages can be found in anything, whether it actually exists or not. :)

I see the Whirl resemblance. It's the "jaw" that sells it. Shockwave doesn't have a jaw, or anything else on his face other than the eye. But Lugnut has the extra jutting jaw below the mono-eye, and Whirl has either a similar jaw (however recessed) or an indentation that looks like a similar jaw. Of course, I never would've spotted the similarity myself, I'm not that familiar with G1 characters by face, and that goes double for non-show characters (Whirl was a non-show character, right? I hope I'm not that ignorant)

Homage or no homage, I freaking love TFA! Imitation is the highest form of flattery. If the designers of these newer characters have borowed from previous designs, then so be it. Obviously the show is doing something right, or a 3rd season wouldn't have been optioned. So, if you're a fan of the look, then just enjoy it for what it is and have fun!

Meh, Lugnut still reminds me of BM Tankor the most.
The colors are very similar and Lugnut is as loyal as a drone to Megs.

We were told at Botcon 2007 that:

Lugnut was inspired by Beast Machines Tankor.

Lockdown was inspired by Boba Fett and the Predator. Hench the bounty hunting , robot part trophies, the invisible cloaking, and the camouflaging space ship .

after 25 years of toys, it is hard NOT to find homage lol, that's just how it is. chances are you will find something that looks like another transformer, in at least some way, even if the homage is not intended.

Yeah, I spotted that, especially when he's wearing that cloak in "A Fistful Of Energon". Aside from that, the spikes, and the wrist-mounted weapons, there's not much there to actually qualify him as an homage, but there's definitely one or two similarities there.

Oh, and Prime's design is blates inspired by Star Convoy.

Looking at those two pictures side by side.....the chin shape and the one big red eye I'd have to say that it isn't a coincidence. There's just too many similarities.

I can see the similarities between Prime and Batman though. Maybe it's his demeanor. He definitely has the whole Bruce Wayne/Batman thing going on.
