I think he even was the biggest attraction of the cartoon to me.
Seriously, when did we ever get such a larger than life colourfull villain who made his mark on the fiction like that ?
Not even Sunbow Galvatron comes close.
I know there may be more popular guys, but to me BW Megatron will always be the best develloped villain Transformers has.
I wish if they do have to have a Megatron for the next cartoon they base him heavily on the BW character and with David voicing him if at all possible.

The main problem here is that we've ticked off several evil villain tropes already:

Megalomaniac: G1 Megatron, Prime Megatron, RiD Megatron
    Insane Tyrant: G1 Galvatron
Arch-Schemer: BW Megatron, (less so)Animated Megatron
Misguided Savior Complex Gone Bad: BM Megatron, IDW Megatron

Arch-Schemer Megatron is good. But are we running out of villain tropes that fit the character?

I agree, the grandious manipulative, cunning, devious yet comical Evil Brit villain is one of the best kinds of villains out there.

I would not mind a return to that.

It'd be great if David Kaye (and Garry Chalk) could headline another Transformers show someday.

Yeah, he was definitely the most colorful Megatron - he had his own style, charm, and vision, all hiding a cruel narcissist. Beast Era Megatron set the standard for me as a kid - no Megatron has come close.

I'd say that BM Megatron is a mix of the Arch-Schemer and Megalomaniac. Other than that, your analysis tracks.

You and me both, on both parts.

Absolutely! Maybe if the voice director gets Garry instead of Peter Cullen, they'll remember that Optimus has a personality beyond "Ultimate Leader". NOT Peter Cullen's fault - G1 Prime has loads of character to him; it's the direction he's getting that is the issue. Why the directors take the most iconic Optimus Prime actor and refuse to let him - you know - ACT is beyond me. At least since Garry isn't as iconic they might let him bring more personality to the role.

I'd love another Optimus Prime like in Cybertron - Garry's performance on that show made the actually somewhat fun dub script even more enjoyable.

Or Maybe give David Kaye another shot at Prime, as in Animated? He also put in an amazing performance there.

Honestly he was kinda cheesy, the least scariest Megatron.

Well, Animated Megatron came pretty close and damn near surpassed BW Megs' epicness status imo.

Still more intimidating than the G1 loser will ever be.

Because let's face it, that's the best word we could use to describe G1 Megatron in the 80s cartoon and in the Marvel comics: A loser.

Same goes for Galvatron, I don't see how he's supposed to be intimidating, he was completely nuts in both the shows and the comics, so more than anything, he was unintentionally comedic.

Also, I don't hate the G1 cartoon, but there were a lot of cheesy moments.

I would ask Beast Wars Megatron to the school dance if I could. He would give the best snark about everyone there and if anyone dared to make fun of us, he'd throw them into a lava pit. Afterwards, he would show me his sensitive side by answering my question "was this night the best night ever?" by saying: "Yesssssssssssssssssssss."

    Yeah, I miss him, too.

TFA Megs was a great villain in the same class, with a different demeanour, but I miss the "hammy but not in a corny way just in a fun, evil way" Megs.

As you would expect from an 80s cartoon. G1 Megatron is still cool in his own way though, he just sucks as a villain who opposes the hero.

I dunno, TFA Megs came pretty close to BW Megs' level of hammyness in "Rise of the Constructicons".

Mixmaster: "You tricked us! You Decepticons are the scum of the universe!"
Megatron: "Whaaat? Who told you that?"

Literally the only thing he needed was to maliciously say "Yesss" at some point. If you're looking for TFA Megatron behaving more like BW Megatron, look at the TFA manga, that's pretty much a fusion between the two, plus some of Galvatron's insanity added into the mix.

Yeah, Garry's Primal was awesome too.
He was as heroic and inspiring as G1 Prime but he was more down to earth.
Not in a ordinary guy trying to achieve greatness like Animated Prime way but in that he didnt have that heroic aura around him.
He was just one of the guys, but he had that special something G1 Optimus had all the same.

I do miss BW Megatron. Most Megatrons seemed to opt to attack first and ask questions later like G1 Megatron. Also most had such grand schemes only to have it all blow up in their face.

BW Megatron was much the same way but his character also had a great way to lead up to such attacks. He was cunning, careful in his planning, and patient at times, and those moments would be just as entertaining as the actual attack itself and he came pretty close to succeeding a few times too. I also loved that even if his plans would fail he would just brush it off since he always had a back up plan or two in place.

Not to mention how many other Megatrons would be a cool enough customer to sit in a bathtub with a rubber ducky and still be considered a threat. It was all made the more entertaining by David Kaye too. Yeeeessssss.....

If it could have been done differently and not rushed, I think NuRID Megatronus voiced by David Kaye would have been awesome.

The awesome thing about BW Megatron was sometimes instead of having a plan himself he would just hijack one of Tarantulas or BA's sheme's and make it work for him, he was that good.
