COLUMBIA, S.C. - Hacker gains access to 3.6 million SC tax returns - State & Regional - TheState.com So, apparently the state has been storing our tax returns, with credit/debit card info and Social Security numbers, in fucking UNENCRYPTED FILES!!! I can understand maybe a small business like FunPub not having the best IT resources available, but this is the damned STATE GOVERNMENT! Why in God's name would they not know that storing sensitive data UNENCRYPTED could be dangerous!? Haven't they at least seen one of those LifeLock commercials? The only thing I can laugh about here is that FunPub saved me from having my card compromised this time, since I already had to replace that card back in February.
Oh man dude, that fucking sucks. I hope whoever made that craptastic call is at least fired, damn, I'm somewhat familiar with the pain coming your way. Hopefully there's no drastic harm to you or your credit. I'd be calling lifelock.
The state has set up a number to call. They are going to give everyone affected a year of credit monitoring...except that will come out of the taxes I already paid, so...
Sonuvabitch....yeah dude time to stat to looking at a class action suit against the state b/c whoever has this info they'll just sit on it until the year runs out. Man, I'd be pretty livid.
