Around 9.00 after finishing watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The power was flicking on and off for about a minute or so with the power comming back and then shutting off. I thought it was some stupid hooligans jerking around with black box. Of course the Power goes out for the night. Trust me as you can see I can'y sleep without a Fan so with no juice It was a looooooong hot night. Since I can't sleep, Eventually I am Playing Pokemon Soul Silver till 2 a.m. My dad tells me to go to sleep and in the next half hour the fan starts up again and a cool breeze went through my room......Finally i could sleep. I slept until 7:30 though. I just thought i wanted to share my story.
We had a storm come up in our area last night with winds up to 70 mph, and it actually knocked out a few powerlines near our apartment. We were at work at the time, but we came home to having to reset every clock in the apartment, pretty much. =p
i was hoping to read about a coup d' tat, lol. during the summer, the power at my house goes off at random, just for about 3 beats, then back on. it is better than it being turned off at exactly the same time each month, lol. what i hate about power loss is if it is out long enough, it takes a long time to cool the house down again.
During the summer in Colorado, we tend to get thunderstorms most every afternoon or late in the evening. Occasionally a lightening strike would hit one of our transformers, "No, not that kind" and the power would go out for an hour or so. People are pretty quick to call the power company so you practically don't need to do anything but wait. So far, this summer we've been lucky and only had one tiny little power glitch that lasted for maybe half a second? It was still just enough to reset the satellite TV system, but not enough to reset the clocks. That's one reason I hate thunderstorms at night. Is when the power goes off, you never know how long it'll be before it comes back, and your sitting in the dark with nothing to do. I try to sleep, but it's hard to sleep during thunder and lightening.
I hate it when the power blips off for a second and I then have to restart my computer. It's old and creaky and takes just enough time to get back online to annoy me. And then the power blips off again. I'd hate for it to go off when it's really hot and I can't use my fan. Battery-operated handheld ones are no decent subsitute. Thankfully there are rechargeable portable DVD players and mp3 players and Nintendo DSeseses to take away the boredom if the power goes out and I've not got a book handy to read. Also would be laptops to play about with if the battery on mine wasn't knackered. Generally the power goes out here when it's got dark outside, just when you could be doing with some lights and a bit of telly to unwind after a hard day. I remember when I was a kid and the power went out early evening at the end of the Christmas holidays the night before school was restarting. The most sophisticated technology we had then was a Walkman so my last night of freedom was completely ruined and me and my brother and sisters got sent to bed early since there was no power and it was dark anyway. There are few things worse for a kid than to be sent to bed at around 5pm the night before going back to school after a week off for Christmas. What pisses me off these days when power goes off is that the houses across the street from us must be on a separate line or something because often my side of the street goes off and they still have power.
I remember nearly three years ago on a Sunday morning, the power went out for about four hours. My place and six other houses were affected. The power outage was caused by a squirrel touching a high voltage wire and it got fried.
I encountered a blackout on April 3rd, when Doctor Who came back on and it cut about 20 minutes before the episode ended. Power didn't come on until 3 in the morning. 8 hours without power = Destructive boredom.
When the power goes out, it's time to brake out your Transformers collection and have a massive battle. That's what I'd do next time I'm home alone with no power.
I'm sorry man, I'm not that great with punctuation. Do you live around New York State or some where near the Great Lakes? I live near Ottawa, rained badly yesterday....my mom's power didn't go off. >.< As i said I was at Dad's house. My collection is at Mom's house. All i brought with me was Bionicle Gelu and Tahnok and my DS.
I've got a wicked case of the farts today, think I'll go start a thread about it or maybe a Facebook update since that would be even more self-indulgent.
every now & then I lose power in my house for a few seconds or a few minutes. it really is a royal pain the re-set all the clocks, stove, microwave time & so forth.
