    I was rewatching old G1 episodes and I noticed in the episode "Fire in the Sky". Starscream transforms into an F-15 millions of years before his arrival on Earth, or the invention of jets.

    Yea he did. Probably because the animators were just being lazy about animating is cybertronain form.

    Okay, that's weird.

    In the tv show, they transform (pre Earth era) into flying pyramids (not sure how else to describe the shape).
