I loved the movie, so did my wife and both kids. I am the only TF fan in the family. Anyway my friends ask me how the movie was and I tell them its great. One of them goes and sees it and curses me. Then others just say I am a bad judge of movies since the movie got slammed everywhere. So I have decided not to recommend/defend this movie any more. I liked it, and if you feel like watching/spending your money go for it... Rant out

Yep. A lot of people like to bandwagon. This happened to me a few times. This is a real life conversation I had with a friend about Godzilla Me: How was the movie? (I hadn't seen it yet) Him: I didn't like it Me: Why? Him: it had a bad story Me: How was it bad? Him: The story sucked. Me: But how? Him: It just did. Same goes for Transformers. I feel like a lot (not everybody, a lot) of people say "that movie sucked dick, fuck you Bay" but when asked what sucked about it they just flounder around and say "because... uh... the story was bad!"
This is true. I think the movie was kind of terrible (like all of them), but this time lacked the great fights that previously made it all worthwhile (for me). Although, even as I say this, I think I'll end up buying this one as well. (obviously I'm conflicted) But none the less, if you liked it that's really all that matters.

You don't need to defend a movie. I think it's fun to discuss movies, and what they did right and wrong, but bear in mind fun =/= quality. OP, you're saying you're the only TF fan in the family. Any chance you're looking/finding something in these movies non-fans don't necessarily want/need? For example: I'm really glad the Transformers got much better characterization in AoE, but I know that people who are not Transformers fans might not even care the slightest about that improvement, and instead take issues with the completely off pacing in the final act of the movie. You're right, there are definitely people who do the bandwagoning thing, because it's hip. On the other hand, let's be honest here: the Michael Bay Transformers movies are not exactly top quality movies. Fun? YES. Hell yes - and nobody should ever have to be ashamed for liking them (or anything), but critism like 'the story was bad' (or what people often mean with this: the plot and plot structure ) is pretty valid.
Probably this. Characterization for the bots was absolutely the best it's been. None the less if you compare it to any movie outside the Transformers series it's still less than it ought to be. That's what the average non fan will take away. If you compare it to Planet of the Apes (an absolutely ridiculous comparison btw), in that film the cg characters had more powerful, involving character development than the humans did. It can be done (just not by Bay). On a loosely related point, after seeing Apes Matt Reeves would now be my top choice to replace Bay.
everybody knows that. it is by no way a good movie. but I liked it because 1. Biased tf fan 2. Had fun watching it 3. Better than the last two
Yup, totally agree with these This is probably also why there's a huge gap between critics and fans with this movie, or for a catchy phrase: why this is both the BEST and the WORST Michael Bay Transformers movie. Why the BEST? Because it's genuinely improving on a lot of things that were off with the previous ones, like the toned down humor and the robot characterization. Why the WORST? Because the movie is still missing a lot of beats, and the minor improvements we fans like don't really matter to non-fans / critics. To them, AoE still feels the same, thus standing still - which for a fourth movie feels more like a decline. I bet this movie would have been seen in a slightly more positive light if it had been the second one, rather than the fourth.
Meh, If you declare yourself a true TF fan and love TF then you love the movies, simple. Haters? Feed 'em rice.
This. I've seen quite a few people mention how they were going to the movie expecting not to like it or saying they are going but if it sucks they'll be back here with some harsh things to say. It's almost as if they want to dislike the movie just so they can come back here and join in the conversations all the cool kids are having about why this movie sucked. I even know someone like this in real life, he said he went to the dark knight and iron man wanting to find things wrong with it because they were so popular. I don't understand it but people love to hate awesome things. My brothers girlfriend is also like this and the best thing to do is walk away shut these fucking downer people out and enjoy the things in life that you love. Nothing will change these people. Nothing. They revel in their negativity.
/every movie ever. We just need to stop taking the opinions of others as if it's a personal attack against us.
