I had a one-of-a-kind unreleased prototype and didn't even know it...

    ... and I got lowballed for it big time ;_;

    So about eight years ago, I found this guy at a flea market for $2:

    [IMG]

    I thought it was either a bootleg or a lunchtime special of Mutant Beast Wars Soundwave, since he was blue instead of brown.

    I put him up on Ebay recently, thinking I might get a couple bucks for him when out of the blue some guy offered $40 for him up front. I ended the auction and sold it to him, thinking I came out on top...

    ... then another Ebay person sent me a message stating that wasn't a Mutant Beast Wars Soundwave, but rather a prototype of the unreleased Universe Horrorcons Leatherhide.

    If I let that auction run it's course, God knows how much he could have gone for.

    I'm such a dummy. ;_;

    Reverse Congratulations. You should rock Chaos Convoy's avatar for a while.

    Just one of the unfortunate things that happens in collecting.

    There's this little shop at the Traders Village flea market in Arlington, TX that specializes in action figures, mostly loose. He gets them in bulk from other places in the flea market, at garage sales, donations, ect... That's where I got this dude.

    I have a hard time believing that you found a one-of-a-kind prototype at a flea market.

    I wish I had seen it on ebay... I've been wanting to get the Halloween Horrorcons but I have no idea how much to expect to pay.

    Indeed I did. I thought it was a bootleg or a lunchtime special. And since bats are my favorite animal, I bought it to accompany my brown Soundwave. Guy at the store thought it was an Animorphs figure till I corrected him.

    True, true. Still peeved that I could of potentially had a triple digit figure for this guy... or hell... if I knew he was an unreleased prototype, I could of had him AFA graded!

    MAN, that sucks. I'd have no idea what a prototype looks like either.

    It's actually not that farfetched, since people bring in lots of toys from China and Hong Kong to the US.

    Seriously? I think I know that guy. I swing by his shop every time I go out there.

    I was super-jealous until I noticed it was eight years ago. That was about three years before I started checking Traders Village.

    Yes, that's where I got that Fort Max head. Hands off my prey!

    Yup, you got low-balled. You took that one right on the chin. At least Ebay is not sending you an email to discuss selling things outside of ebay.

    I will make this short but I found a prototype G1 Darkwing at a garage sale back in the early 90's,its solid black,but was missing his right robot leg,but I found a regular release leg on here 3 or 4 years ago in junkion,replaced the leg and painted it black,so now I have an 80% prototype of Darkwing.

    I also think I paid like a quarter or 50 cents for it.Also before you ask NO Darkwing is NOT for sale,I know what its worth,actually I am waiting for one day when someone will have his brother Dreadwind so I can complete there super jet mode.

    Naw, already had the regular one. Bought the blue one because I thought it would look cool on my shelf next to him.

    LOL yeah. You find the occasional treasure there every once in a while. Most of the time I go there to look for bits for my Bash-Kit (my toolbox full of toy pieces that I use for custom kitbashes) or the occasional Ebay-fodder.

    Technically it wasn't outside of Ebay. I took down the auction and put up a Buy it Now auction and he bought it now.
