So I was watching the movie the other day and realized those are the characters I care about and thats where my MP collection will end. Anyone in the movie will be bought, anyone not will just be a case by case basis but it feels nice knowing that whilst there may still be figure I would like who are non movie, I have an end to what I 'need' to buy.

I know it's a personal preference and I don't need to buy anything but it's how I rationalize it. Once all movie cast are done, collection is complete and any cool figures I see will just be adhoc.

Where does everyone else see it stopping ?

 

I have mentioned similar elsewhere. Short of eventual Takara releases I have versions of most characters that I am happy with in regard to third party options and won't be upgrading. As such, my MP collecting is slowing down too and I am happy with idea.

 

I think when money becomes tight, when someone perfects an MP Starscream, or most importantly....

Yup I'm Skids away from completing pre movie non combiner characters and Kup from Movie cast. Chuck in the other 4 main Headmasters and I'm done.

Once a self-defined collection is completed, we have the option of quitting and not pursue other lines.

But, for some people, they just move onto other lines and open the floodgates to more purchases.

For me, I just buy new designs as they see fit since I tend to like the more elusive things such as IDW MP scale.

I think I'm very similar to you, pezley. The movie characters are also the focus of my collection, though I will still pick up anything else I find cool (I just won't have the urge to complete other lines in the same way as the '87 movie lineup). However I don't see an end to it, even with that subset cast within the brand, there's always a better figure or a different scale or re-paint, mini bust, or signed artwork tempting me

I'm an MP Cliffjumper away from completing my Ark and Nemesis crews. then I'm officially punching out of the G1 Masterpiece game.
However, the MPM series has my attention. So now there's that.

 

My collection will never be complete.
Why, because Cesium will never be released.
Shall i go with Scoria?
Don't like Scoria when compared to the non exsistance Cesium.

 

I am nearing completion of my goal to get a representation of all the season 1-4 characters in CHUG style. I am willing to wait for Hasbro to chug out the big boys such as Omega Supreme and Scorponok, and am buying third-party to fill the gaps or get better versions of characters I love, but even with that goal fulfilled, I don't see myself from stopping collecting. I will most likely continue looking for better representations of characters I feel deserve it. I will also keep an eye out for new and interesting figures or variations of beloved characters such as the outstanding MT Cross Dimensions line and Planet X WFC/FOC figures.

Have said all that, I desperately need a good CHUG Rodimus Prime figure to finish my movie cast. Not even the upcoming MMC Calidus or SXS Hot Flame will fill that void for me!

 

Im kinda/sorta feeling this way, but I tend to re-draw my collection "lines in the sand" every other week.

Right now, I have Phoenix x2, Caesium x2, Apache and Terminus Gigantus on preorder. After that point the only things on my radar are the GP Grimlock and any MT/FT Headmasters or Targetmasters. If Takara ever gets around to Sunstreaker, Hound or Jazz, those will be instant buys too.

Bottom line is that I am out of room, and less compelled to spend cash these days. As it is I am pruning out most of my Season 2 characters after I had the epiphany that , aside from the combiners and Omega, I really disliked most everything about the S2 characters.

 

If you collect all the movie characters, it will be a lot. If you only collecting the main characters, then you'll be done pretty fast.

Thankfully I didn't fall down the MP rabbit hole. There are about 4 Autobot and 3 Decepticon MPs which I'll colllect and with 3P I'm pretty much done unless something just absolutely neat comes along. Things like Omega Supreme MP or the MP Dinobots tempt me but only because they works just as well if not better with classics.

Now my classics collection on the other hand... There is way more stuff for these guys to mine. I'm talking everything on the 1984-1989 American pack-in catalogs and Japanese market is fair game with almost all the stuff from 87 onward still needing a classics treatment. So, when i saw an MP snapdragon and Apeface and realized there haven't been done yet as Classics, I was saddened a bit. If they could just shrink those guys to voyagers!

 

I've thought I was close to done a few times. Once I even told my wife I was done back when I had around 10 or so MPs. Every time I get close to getting all the ones I want (I don't have any "need all the characters from season X"; I just get the figures for characters I liked) others that weren't on my list before start looking more appealing.

I currently want transistor, the Insecticons, Arkose, Mp36 (waiting for the ko), smokescreen (I didn't originally want him but seeing two of the Datsuns vs the three seekers made me want to compete the set), Koot, Rouge, wheelie (for some reason xtb's name for him escapes me), Blitzwing (ft's babe for him escapes me too), Magnus, and that's all I can think of right now. Sovereign is getting more tempting even though I never much cared for the Unicron Decepticons' designs and, if I get him, I'm sure I'll want scourge and cyclonus (maybe not cyclonus: don't really like him at all). So yeah, I've still got quite a few to get through. I probably won't get all of those though.

Also I'd better be done soon. I have a double detolf and no plans to add a third and it's gotten very crowded in there since Jinboa's warbo joined the fray. Probably gonna rug up some shelf extenders so I can fit all eight shelves even with two combiners but there still won't be a huge amount of space.

 

Everyone from the movie is my goal. Excluding the dorks who die at the beginning as they dont transform.

 

Yea, I can see an end to my suffering too, and it will be Grinder X and misc MP arcee. After that really, it is just not pressing once my dino x and skyfire and arcees are in.

 

Don't forget Snarl was also in there for a short moment. He didn't die as we see him in s3.
