I’ve seen reviews for some KOs that are as good as or better than the official Tamara/Hasbro Masterpiece figures but I haven’t been able to find where to actually buy them.

I’m most interested in MP-36 Megatron and MP-44 Optimus Prime (with or without trailer).

I’d appreciate any tips on how to get these!

    Thanks!

THANKS! I know I need to expect some trade-off when considering KOs but have you picked these up yourself? How’s the quality?

The Megatron on TF-Direct looks great (would just need the logo decals). Some of the pictures on the Optimus from Showzstore make me hesitant.

I got the Toy House factory Megatron and the MP-44 KO. Plastic quality is good, and from what I've got from them so far the Megatron is really good, just be mindful of paint chipping when you transform it like on the official.

The MP-44 KO requires some fixes out of the box, and there's a list of all the fixes needed on the MP-44 KO page, but the only "main" ones I found myself needing to do was loosen the ab crunch since it came really tight out of the box, painted the eyes yellow or blue with a Gundam marker, and to just be mindful of the knees since they're the same as the official. It might sound like a lost but, here in Canada anyway, I'd say it's a pretty good trade off for saving 500 dollars.

Well I think I may be sold on both of these. I’m definitely for saving some money especially if they look so close to the real thing!

TF-Direct and Show.Z for me. I have both the MP-44 KO and THF Dynastron. THF is spectacular. MP-44 KO is meh. Lots of fixes needed for that one.

You can find some on Ebay assuming they're a reliable seller(ALWAYS check the percentage, check the positive and negative reviews, if the negatives always show similar trends like sending the wrong items or, bogus tracking numbers, never shipping, etc., stay away)

MP-44 KO is what worries me most. I keep seeing pics on the same item page that show 2 very different figures. One that looks gross with wrong colours and then pics of what looks like the real thing.

can you post pics of what you bought?

The photos of him with the wrong colors are of when he was still in development.
This is the finished copy. (The yellow eyes I painted)

I don’t have my MP-44 KO yet (hoping it comes in by the weekend) but it sounds like what you are talking about are the early test shot pictures of the KO. Which had parts not in the final colors.

The KO looks to have its issues but wrong colors isn’t one of them.

I was surprised no one else said Sir-Toys either. That's the go to place for KO's for me.

As others have said, the only issue color-wise is that it's molded plastic as opposed to painted, giving the figure a more matte finish, and the dead eyes (which I painted with a Gundam marker). It's more just the MP-44 mold in general and this figure having been reverse engineered. It's great on a shelf but not much more. I'm not going to transform it. Here's THF Megs and the MP-44 KO on my shelf. I added reprolabel insignias to each and painted the MP-44 eyes.

If you get any of the old car bots, you may want to temper your expectations. The paint and build on some of the older molds are very spotty for KO's, with Tracks being the only exception that I've personally owned. I honestly recommend spending a bit more and picking up a used copy of an official for most of those, especially the Fairlady mold.
