This thread is just a thought exercise, I do not have any secret info about this actually happening. Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up.

So, for those who may have been unaware, TFW2005 has a mascot, named Boombox. That's his head up there in the site banner. More info and images can be found HERE.

Now, for the question: if one of the big 3rd party manufacturers decided to make a toy of this character, how do you think that would play out? Would you buy one? I think I'd want one, but then I start thinking about the moral implications that are often brought up regarding copyright infringement/idea theft for "normal" 3rd party items. Are they more applicable in this scenario? Or should there be no distinction? It would be interesting to hear from the people responsible for Boombox's creation on this subject.

I'd buy one. Preferably in the TFA style. :)

I'm not sure that I would. Boombox is decent in both name and design, but there's nothing about him that really impresses me. And I mean no disrespect to the original designer(s), either.

No I would not buy one. I barely know who it is and I don't like the design that much.

I think TFW might have a way of making a buck.

I would be down with that. A licensed one would be great. I tend to think of him as Blaster's buddy.

    If I thought it was cool I'd get it, if I didn't I wouldn't.

Get a Boombox figure with a $XX donation, and I'd go for it.

I'd totally buy a Boombox! IF, that is, it's a repaint/remold of a 3rd party classics voyager Blaster figure. A decent Blaster would look good in silver/blue, and he could use all those crazy Japanese cassettebots.

I was going to bash FoC soundblaster into one but then though trying to paint over black was more trouble than its worth. Still yes I would but I think we should have a go at talking TFCC into putting him out as the repaint I gave up on.

But what if a 3rd Party just ignores TFW and does it anyway without TFW's/Boombox's creator's permission? Would people still line up to buy one despite TFW's obvious objection to it?

In all seriousness? Given how people have acted in similar instances, there'd still be a line of preorders if the mold was any good.

That I would be a lot less happy with, its dumb I know but I actually feel worse about a 3rd part ripping off TFW IP than I do about one ripping off hasbro. I guess its the big faceless corp doesn't matter as much as people I know kinda non-logic going on there.

If HASBRO did it, they's just make a new head for a FoC Soundwave body.

Yes, if it could actually play music, or at least have working speakers.

These responses are kinda what was going through my head when I thought of it. On the one hand, it would be cool if the figure were an incentive for a large sum donation to TFW2005. But it would kinda make me feel icky if said figure were produced with TFW2005 seeing no benifit/compensation whatsoever. And yet I don't feel that way when I see 3rd party companies doing exactly that to Hasbro/Takara.

Does that make me a bad person?
