I recently acquired a PC from someone who hasn't used it in ages. (Paid $0 for it.)
I am thinking about upgrading it a bit and putting it in my bedroom as a HTPC unit.

It's an HP with the following stats:
    Athlon X2 5000+ running at 2.6Ghz
    *4GB RAM at 667hz (DDR2)
    *TurtleBeach Wave 5.1 sound card
*2GB video card with HDMI out
360GB HDD (D.O.A. and computer was tested to confirm)
    4 USB rear, 1 front
    2 5.25" drive bays
    3 3.5" drive bays

    * owner upgrades

I was hoping to upgrade the RAM to 6GB, Install a 120 GB SSD and a 2 TB HDD. will add another 2TB in the future.
Want to Put XBMC on it.
this will not be a work computer, just XBMC, Youtube and eMail.

intend to connect this 5.1 PC speakers i got for Christmas- Logitech Z506 model- and a 32" LCD.

Ya think after those upgrades, this will make for a smooth running media center?

It'll definitely work. HTPC's generally run with little specs, other than decent video. The on board ram won't help you too much, since more work should be in the graphics processor. I would leave it at 4gb and see how it goes.

I'd also not spend the money on the SSD for a media center, but that's just me.

The SSD was a minor luxury for quick booting the OS.
But i think i will run the 4gb memory before adding more. thanks!
