After Megatron was brought back to life, he flew to Cybertron what appeared to be in 24hrs. How? I know this because Sam was still in college.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in ROTF, Cybertron is one of Saturn's moons. It'll take over five years to reach that planet. What it Bay's bad writing?

Not Cybertron, one of Saturn's moons where the Nemesis had apparently crashed. The Novel adaption simply referred to it as a "planet in a dead system orbiting a cooling star".

As far as I know Cybertron was not one of Saturn's moons.

Now how did he get there so fast? Probably just an example of lazy writing, this WAS ROTF after all.

Not exactly just lazy writing (though, that's a big part of it), a lot of it was due to the writer's strike taking place during the filming of the movie. It really suffers because of that. It suffers because it sucks, in general, but it definitely did the flick no favors.

Although this could be justified by the fact that Megatron was traveling across the galaxy on his own body's propulsion before the first movie and probably has the same technology for INTERSTELLAR travel *cue organ* used in Cybertronian spaceships built into that body, and may have kept it for his flying hamburger body reformat, this feels like a good time to remind ourselves of the fact that Saturn is 9.6 astronomical units away from Sol.

^Yeah, the bodies here aren't to scale, but the distances sure are.

If you've forgotten, an astronomical unit is the length of space between the Earth and Sol, in which light takes 8 minutes to travel the full length of, and totals at 149,597,871 kilometers; and for scale reference, Jupiter is a measely 139,820 kilometers. You could fit 9,201 Jupiters between Sol and Saturn. It took Perseverance 7 months to get to Mars from Earth at its carefully-timed, optimal range (the opposite of which, could've been 8 times the distance, due to the orbits of the two), traveling only a little more than a third of an astronomical unit, and it takes light 80 minutes to reach Saturn. The Jovian planets are far.

    SPACE IS BIG

While this is an excellent summary the highlight may be you referring to Megatron's tank body as a flying hamburger. :p

You can thank Vangelus' old, old, old video review of ROTF Voyager Megatron for that one. (EDIT: or so I thought, the video doesn't quite say it, but a TFW search reveals that user:SPLIT LIP coined "flying hamburger tank" in 2010; convergent laconics I guess) I've called it that for years. Same with "Tax Evasion Optimus Prime," forgot who coined it though.

He didn’t fly to Cybertron. He flew to one of Saturn’s moons that had the crashed Nemesis on it.

That wasn't Cybertron, that was one of Saturn's moons. If they called it Cybertron in TLK's special features its further proof that they don't give a damn about the movies.

Agreed and great point. He did fly to one of Saturn's moons. On another topic, I have a feeling Cybertron is possibly in an outlying galaxy, especially considering the movie's version of the space bridge. I could be wrong. . .

I think it's safe to assume Megatron has some sort of faster-than-light drive, considering he turned into a spaceship in the first film (and he presumably used it when he followed the Allspark to Earth). You never really see Transformers enter any sort of lightspeed (like in Star Wars or Star Trek), but it seems to be pretty common and casual tech.

That's true, he flew to Saturn's moon (I think it was Saturn, at least). I should have addressed that in my post. Even that would require some sort of lightspeed drive.

That's true. But you were probably right to begin with since in the bayverse Megatron flew through space and crashed on Earth trying to find the allspark, that had to require some form of sub light ot lightspeed equivalent

One of two theories comes to mind:
    - the Fallen opened some space bridges for him
    - his tank-mode boost gave him the power to travel through space (which he could do since he was first seen as a jet).

Ok. Thank you. This was never clarified in the film.

Correct. Transformers are Summer films. They brought in millions but the writing was bad.

This makes sense. My question is why were they so weak on Earth. Starscream was killed by Sam of all people. Jesus.

It’s a great privilege that when writing about aliens and their technology, stuff that doesn’t make sense can always be brushed off as “aliens doing alien stuff”.

Can’t do that with human characters.
