How would you write a tf villain.
Personally i would either make a original characters or take the characters galvatron, cyclonus, scourge, and the sweeps and give more depth to them keep the idw origin except the sweeps maybe make them cybertronians who joined galvatrons army and willingly modeled their bodies after scourge. galvatron, cyclonus and scourge would have their idw origin and a bit of unicron involved i would have them make a deal with the chaos bringer and get a ton of powers from him. it would show how galvatron met cyclonus and scourge and earned their respect. They would still meet nova prime but instead of the dead universe it’s unicron. that’s how is would personally write a tf villain

Here’s how I’ll write each TF villain:

Megatron: An oppressed gladiator who wanted to bring change to cybertron through brutal means.

starscream: An egotistical maniac who cares about nobody except himself and he will do anything to become the leader of the decepticons.

Shockwave: A scientist who got his emotions removed as well as his morality. He would do anything to achieve his goals even if it means killing himself in the process.

The fallen: the exact same way he was written in PoTP

The quintessons: the exact same way they were written in G1

    Unicron: The same as above

galvatron: megatron from the future who got insane from time traveling so many and unicron’s torture. He is an unstoppable killing machine and he would stop at nothing to escape from unicron’s wrath.

Overlord: Basically how he was written in IDW

Nova prime: A prime who wanted to expand cybertron by killing everything else

    Bludgeon: A religious zealot

The DJD: They’re former autobots who were left behind to die, and they were captured by megatron and brainwashed to be his loyal slaves, they now serve megatron as his executioners who kills autobots and decepticon defects.

BW Megatron: A predacon who faced injustice for being a decepticon descendant, after his girlfriend got killed by a maximal mob, the police didn’t do anything, so cryotek ( laser beak) took him in, after years of training under cryotek he betrays him and takes a crew back in time to kill Optimus prime so the decepticons win the war.

    Megatron
Born into a mining colony on a distant world, Megatron did back breaking work and occasionally had to kill his friends in the gladiatorial arena for the enjoyment of the upper class. Eventually the Maximals arrived on-world for a mission. Megatron enlisted as soon as he could, but soon the lasting effects of his painful past would cause him to begin down a darker path. One war later, Megatron would become unaccounted for, and his Predacon’s would be forced to surrender. In the past 100 years, however, signs have started pointing to him still being alive, especially the reports of the mysterious “Decepticons.”

    Starscream
Originally a morally conscious air-warrior, Starscream now enjoys nothing more than becoming more and more powerful. He believes himself to be the most deserving and powerful Decepticon. One day he will kill that arrogant relic, Megatron.

    Shockwave
A scientist who often goes too far and prides themself on being “unpredictable,” Shockwave is the creator of many Cybertronian weapons of war. Hopefully his high opinion of himself won’t see them turned on their creator.

    Soundwave
Soundwave hasn’t let the destruction of his home kill his mood. He dreams of the day that he will be able to get down to some sick beats there once again. Soundwave is a master of audio and intelligence manipulation, and his habits of cloaking his frequency and mysteriously disappearing have earned him distrust from the more observant Decepticons.

    Sideways
Sideways went for a long period with amnesia, getting by as a swindler and con artist. Once gifted his lost memories, Sideways begins working towards some higher plan.

Personally, depends on the villain. Sometimes you have the smooth, charismatic calculator, the Bond villain, the extremist dictator, the comical villain, etc. So when you have a guest villain, you have to choose what kind of villain you're gonna go with.

For my ideal core cast of characters, I basically go the Die Hard route, making the leading villains quite intimidating yet affable, while their subordinates are basically muscle or straightforward dog heavies (Knock Out and Starscream), some of them with their own set of eccentricities to allow for humorous moments. This is how I write for my core villains...

Shockwave (leader): Basically similar to the Marvel comics version. Cold, calculating and always trying to be ahead of his enemies. The cold, calculating villain who speaks in a very civil manner, but he still has that aura of menace about him. Both a physical and a desk heavy.

Deluge (second-in-command, scientist): Shockwave's right hand man. Basically the equivalent of your typical Nazi mad scientist. Maniacal, yet smooth, with the ability to change his colors like a chameleon in order to sneak and attack his enemies by surprise. Straightforward desk heavy, more effective scheming behind-the-scenes than in the battlefield. One of the guys running the show.

Starscream (aerial assault): An egotistical, childish buffoon with daddy issues. Starscream's progenitor was one of the most well known schemers and air commanders in Cybertron, and when Megatron killed him, Starscream took his place, but as time passed and he kept trying to take over leadership after Megatron's destruction (only to be demoted to field trooper), Starscream figured out that he just didn't have what it took to be as good as his father, so he gradually becomes less enthusiastic about being a Decepticon and feels that he should do better. A dog heavy, in other words, the guy who is all bark and no bite. The guy who tends use words instead of fists and tends to kick the dog or be rude to the bartender just to show-off to others how tough he is, but Starscream is a dog heavy mainly because of repressed anger due to being constantly bullied back when he was a small bot. However, his bragging and constant overrating of his own skills can play against him, and he tends to be quite the cowardly weasel whenever an opponent that can stand for himself comes into the scene.

Runabout and Runamuck (shock troopers): The two punks of the Decepticons. Not too bright and extremely hyperactive. Muscle and dog heavies.

Thunderhoof (mobster): A very notorious crime boss with a rather mean streak. Nightbeat's rival, though he has also held his own against Rodimus. Muscle.

Knock Out (maintenance): The sardonic member of the Decepticons (akin to Eve Arden's Connie Brooks) and a very narcissistic fellow. He falls in love with Strongarm, which actually causes her a lot of doubt about her path to becoming an upstanding police officer, knowing about being in different sides. Still, despite this, Knock Out enjoys teasing and harassing her. Dog villain mixed with the "guy with the charming personality" type (akin to Theo from Die Hard).

Tankor (ground assault): An angry, vengeful destroyer who only thinks about destroying everything in his path. Muscle.

Sky-Byte (field commander): Sky-Byte is left in charge of the troops in the battlefield and is quite an effective leader. However, he is a bit too melodramatic and theatrical at times. He has a continuing rivalry against Drift. Muscle.

Quake (berserker): Basically what would happen if Ricky Ricardo was a Transformer. Quake has a rather itchy trigger finger and he is quite destructive, but he has a great passion for Cuban music. He is married to Knock Out's sister Lucy. Both Quake and Knock Out serve as the Odd Couple of the Decepticons. Muscle and comedy relief.

Blitzwing (ground and air assault): A rather honorable fighter, but somewhat gullible and not too bright at times. He was tricked by Deluge into thinking that the Autobots were brutal killers, but he eventually learns the truth and starts doubting his own cause, to the point that he starts hanging out quite frequently with Starscream. Muscle.

Piranacon/The Seacons: Piranacon is composed of Snaptrap (the honorable yet ruthless leader), Nautilator (the clumsy, endearing Rodney Dangerfield type), Overbite (the relentless predator), Seawing (the sinister, shady dweller of the depths), Skalor (the stinky, primitive brute) and Tentakil (the sneaky, affable charmer with a grip that kills). Piranacon is a force to be reckoned with, an incredibly powerful destroyer and merciless fighter. His rivalry with Victorion has spanned millenia. All the Seacons are muscle.

Ive been brainstorming a tv series lately and my cast of villians has consisted of:

-Megatron (his wfc/foc voice and attitude on the battlefield, contrasted by a more calm and collected persona off it. Cares for his decepticons to an extent, but keeps them on a tight leash and dosent allow room for failure.)
    Screenshot_20210127-174134_Google.jpg

    -Starscream (see any screamer ever)
    Screenshot_20210127-174442_Google.jpg

-Blackout (tactically minded, openly loyal to megatron and distrusting of screamer. Can generate an EMP by stomping the ground.)
    Screenshot_20210127-174531_Google.jpg

-Lugnut (good friend to blackout and also fiercely loyal to megatron. Unlike blackout, however, lugnut is quite stupid and runs into battle guns blazing. Hands convert into nuclear warheads, lovingly titled "P.O.K.E"(Punch of kill everything.)
    Screenshot_20210127-174751_Google.jpg

-Terradive (a brooding nihilist, terradive loathes his allies and only stays around out of fear of what megatron may do to him if he went AWOL. Proficient with his trident, however, he tends to be easily irritated and resorts to dirty fisticuffs.)
    Screenshot_20210127-174950_Google.jpg

-Knockout (just copy and paste prime knockout.)
    Screenshot_20210127-175641_Google.jpg

-battlechargers(the vehicons of this continuity. They are led by runamuck and runabout, who serve as comedic relief)

I would simply take any of a number of TFW2005 fans, and give their behavior to a Transformer.

Ok, not really. I'm of the opinion that the best villains are those who are actually right in thinking the way they do and are correct about many things, even if what they are doing is wrong. So take any robot from the brand, and make them have an actual point and drop truth bombs.

Hmm, I guess I'll roll with the other posts and go with describing a Decepticon cast:
-Megatron -- uncompromising idealist who's convinced that war is the only effective to solve problems, but is haunted by the costs of such an approach.
-Starscream -- pragmatic air commander who thinks that Megatron's endless war is getting the Decepticon cause no where. Dreams of usurpation and a moderated war.
-Soundwave -- Megatron's enduring loyalist, although privately, he questions Megatron's lack of success. Knows too much about the costs of war from listening to communications.
-Shockwave -- unethical scientist who conducts his experiments with the mindset of "victory at any cost." Stranded on Cybertron for eons and despite his programming, he becomes attached to his creations and is wracked with grief when they fail or die.
-Demolisher -- Megatron's top field commander. Competent, courageous, and cunning, but thinks of his soldiers as dispensable pieces on a chess board.
-Lockdown -- hired help who leads a black ops team. He'll do anything that he's paid for, war crimes and all.
-Barricade -- Decepticon security chief. A by-the-book lawman, he often butts heads with Lockdown.
-Sidways -- a double-agent playing the long game. The only thing he lives for is to deceive others, but he finds himself latching on to either cause when he needs to ground himself in reality.
-Dirge -- aerial warrior who preys on fear. He's used his engines to generate terror for so long that he's losing his hearing, and is often found shouting.
-Ramjet -- thug who uses his head and nosecone as blunt objects with varying degrees of effectiveness. Comic relief and laughingstock of the Decepticons
-Thrust -- aerospace scout who spends most of his time hovering in the upper atmosphere. Feeling lonely, he'll often report back to base with even the slightest hint of Autobot activity, feigned or not.

This was fun to write -- thanks for the thread.

I feel like there's a fair amount of existing villain characters out there lacking actual fiction to develop them.

G2 Windrazor - an intelligent but near-Kamikaze-esque attitude to destroying the Autobots. I'd love to see more from him because, to me, he's a mini-tyrant.

Colossus/Clench - A barbarian style leader. Basically Grimlock as a Decepticon.

Megatron - completely driven by his desire for power. Convinces TFs into thinking he will make life better for them, when in reality he will do the opposite
Starscream - believes in the Decepticon cause but hates Megatron. Prefers the company of Autobots to his fellow Decepticons.
Sideways - An Autobot secretly giving information to the Decepticons, causing them to lose battles
Lug nut - blindly loyal to Megatron, even when it makes no logical sense

Liege Maximo. A mysterious being of unknown origins, and ancient enemy of Cybertron. He manipulates events and engineers conflict in order to achieve some uncertain goal - he engineers he rise of Megatron and the Decepticons and manipulates the war to his own benefit, playing all sides under many false identities and through his loyal agents.

Jhiaxus, a newer model of Transformer from a distant colony, which was ravaged by the war between the Autobots and Decepticons. Viewing the older machines from Cybertron as inferior products, he rallied his people into their own distinct faction. They are aligned with Maximo.

Megaplex could use more love as a villain's clone with a genuine spark.

Kranix, being corrupted by Unicron and turned into a large Phantasm style sphere, could play a minor villain role in a Unicron story line.

I'm sure there are others with ranks of of 9 or 10 on their stats that can pull off the main villain role for a time.

Megatron is a charismatic but ultimately two-faced, power hungry tyrant who shares many characteristics with various infamous despots in our history, particularly Joseph Stalin.

Starscream is his highly skilled and reliable air commander who often serves as his second in command. Incredibly sociopathic and cruel with a penchant for kicking others while they're down. In many ways Megs is trying to mold Starscream into his perfect replacement, he knows how to speak to him and how to play into his neuroses and insecurities to get the best results.

Soundwave is his seemingly super loyal intelligence officer who serves as a creepy 'big brother' type figure among the Decepticons who keeps everyone in line, but in reality he is a blackmailing snitch who will sell anyone out to keep himself in high favor among whoever is in charge, he's more loyal to the former senator Ratbat than he is Megatron.

Shockwave shares many elements with his Marvel counterpart, cold and calculating. Won't hesitate to slag Megatron once he's no longer seen as a useful for his own goals.

If Megatron is Stalin, then Lord Straxus is Mao Zedong. A feared tyrant who rules over a large portion of the Decepticon occupied Cybertron with savage brutality. Responsible for the ongoing 'Straxian Holocaust'. Even among his contemporaries such as Scorponok, Overlord, Gigatron, Deathsaurus, Thunderwing, Megadeath, Scarab, the Triumvirate (Later rebranded as the "Tripredacus Council") and Bludgeon he's viewed as particularly cruel.

Flame is an otherwise brilliant but obsessed and deeply disturbed scientist who is a disgraced Autobot. Nothing is too high a cost for him to sacrifice in the quest for his goals, he's secluded himself in an area of Cybertron (Kalis) blocked off and barricaded from the rest of the world where he toils away for hours working on something terrible. Autobot and Decepticon alike avoid Kalis.

Jhiaxus is always looking towards the future and views himself as above the petty war that has wracked his home. Having spent time seeking what is seen as forbidden knowledge (the method of Budding) he took this knowledge and left Cybertron to build his own empire elsewhere in the cosmos. Until one day he'd cross paths with a figure that would alter the trajectory of what he viewed as his destiny...

'The Mistress of Flame' is the monarch of the colony world known as Caminus, which has long cut itself off from Cybertron and served as a haven for those unwilling to fight the Decepticons. She holds a very low opinion of both Autobots and Decepticons and views them as opposite sides of the same coin while showing little to no appreciation for how it was primarily the Autobots keeping the Cons from reaching their home. Often butts heads with Nijika, who herself is very sympathetic to the Autobot cause and often argues in their favor much to the displeasure of the Mistress and her Torchbearers. Much to the Mistresses annoyance it also seems Nijika's younger sister, the bright-eyed Windblade appears to show great interest in the Autobots.

Starting out as more of an annoyance than a proper threat, the energy-based life-form KremZeek over time grows into a much more powerful and deadly entity that needs to be contained before it continues to grow and propagate.

Sunstorm, Acid Storm and Hailstorm were three seeker-type Decepticons given special augmentations by Shockwave and as a result became his super-powered bodyguards. Sunstorm has control over immense heat and can expel it form his body in the form of beams and flames, there is little out there he can't melt. Acid Storm has a corrosive touch and can eat away at practically any material with his acid, he can dispel this substance in flight and as a result devastate the landscape and anyone caught up in it. Hailstorm has control over the cold and can freeze almost anything from her touch alone. Shockwave helped them hone their abilities and now they serve him as his "Rainmakers".

Master Mouth and his Mecannibals want to eat Cybes. That's it.

Lockdown is a bounty hunter who works for whomever pays him the most and allows him to indulge in his trophy-collecting habits. Not really a huge fan of waxing philosophy or ideology, prefers to just get to the point.

Black Shadow and Blue Bacchus are a duo of notorious gangsters in the galactic community infamous for their displays of cruelty and making an example of those who want in on their turf or get in the way of their business. This one time a cute little group calling themselves the D.J.D. tried to intimidate the two and were made a pretty graphic example of.

I'm tempted to go on because I love doing this kinda shit but there's too many more I want to cover. :lolol  I may update this post with more if I feel the need to add a few more.

Some of the myriad of villians in my new continuity:

    Decepticons
    - Former political party 'The Ascenticons'. Megatron rose to fame there when he brought Energon to Cybertron as a solution for the fuel famine that was plaguing the planet. It turned out Energon was made from stripmined life holding worlds and they were dubbed 'Decepticons' by those who abhorred the truth that was hidden from them. Now a cult of personality built around Megatron who "saved" them from the corrupt politicians who cared more about aliens while keeping the remaining fuel for themselves.

    Megatron
    - Charismatic two faced magnificent bastard. Rose to power claiming he's bringing Cybertron back to greatness, but its really all rhetoric. He only sees people in two ways; resources to exploit or obstacles to remove. Usually a soft voiced smooth baritone (Clancy Brown), but those who repeatedly defy him like Optimus learn that behind that is a raging beast.

Starscream - Think a combination of his Armada self, Zuko, and Hamilton. He starts as a young ambitious but loyal Decepticon trying to get Megatron's attention but once he learns how fruitless that is, he betrays Megatron in a way that either leaves him dead or a turncoat depending on how tragic I want his tale to be.

Soundwave - Basically Tarn. He's Megatron's pet psycho who takes the The Word of Megatron as gospel and takes great joy in killing heretics. Works with Ravage, Buzzsaw, Laserbeak, Rumble and Frenzy as the DJD, the Decepticon's answer to the KGB.

Shockblast - General who was empurata-ed (lobotomized) by Flatline on Megatron's orders because he was worried Shockblast was staging a coup but didn't want to lose his brilliant mind. Although it succeeded in ridding him of most of his emotions, he remembers enough to know he hates Megatron and will get his revenge.

Flatline - Doctor who makes Mengele look like Nurse Nightingale. Actually had his medical license removed and was reduced to kidnapping 'empties' off the streets for his experiments until Megatron found promise in his research. Combination of SG Ratchet and Tarantulas in the cackle. Jeffrey Combs.

Ratbat - Former CEO of company who sold Energon prewar. Megatron was the leader of the private military company that actually went to the alien worlds.

Flame - Proof that not all monsters are Decepticons. He created the Gestalt project turning a planet of defenseless civilians into an endlessly combining hivemind who can only chant "Till all are One."

Nemesis Prime - Anarchist to Megatron's fascist emperor. Seeks to destroy all hierarchies in the galaxy to free the people of them. Zaheer-like. Optimus Prime from another universe, is dubbed Nemesis once he shows his true colors to not confuse him with our Optimus.

Silas Blackrock - David Xanatos like villain who sees profit in the alien technology the Autobots bring to earth.

The Quintessons - Technorganic aliens with an odd history with Cybertron, an ascension cult that observes aliens until they surpass a certain technological milestone then judge them as worthy of either extinction or assimilation.

The Decepticons - The Decepticons formed out of the torn faction the Ascenticons. They were primarily forged out of the radical and violent terrorists who called them Ascenticons. Many joined the Decepticons to fight back against a governing body that abused and used them or judged them based on their alt modes. Others joined just as an excuse to cause destruction and mayhem. And others still joined simply to use the Decepticons leader Megatron to achieve their ultimate goals.

Now for the major villains that appear in my story...
Megatron - The leader of the Decepticons, he had formed the Ascenticons with Orion Pax to fight back against the Senate. His dreams for a free Cybertron soon became muddled with a desire for power and control, becoming the very thing he once fought against. Now he leads the Decepticons in an attempt to enslave the universe, but as time has gone on more and more have soon seen that Megatron merely carries on this war as a personal grudge against Optimus Prime and have turned their backs on him.

Starscream - A former member of the Senate and commander of the Seekers. He seeks power and will use anyone to get it, but when it comes down to hand to hand combat he's more likely to cower and retreat. He finally gets the power he wants when he lets Unicron take control of his body following Unicron's initial defeat at the hands of Rodimus Prime. But following this incident, Starscream now no longer seeks power and works alone. But when Cybertron's darkest hour is upon them Starscream is up to defend his home world even if the Autobots don't believe him.

Soundwave - Soundwave was once a disposable Cybertronian who no one cared for. Until a young Megatron saved him from the streets. Now Soundwave is loyal to Megatron and Megatron alone, willing to fight anyone who dares to usurp or other throw him. He is the Decepticon's communications officer and uses his Mini-Cons for espionage & spy operations. Following the death of Megatron/Galvatron, Soundwave must find new meaning and that is protecting the very planet his leader once wished to conquer even if it means allying with the Autobots.

Galvatron - Megatron was nearly killed following his fight with Nova Prime, but when Megatronus Prime rescued him and dropped him in a pool of Dark Energon he was reborn as Galvatron. Galvatron has learned from his mistakes, he is more cunning and more powerful. He uses his physical power as a last resort and uses his words to get what he wants, and right now that is getting the Autobot Windblade to join the Decepticons and bring about Solus Prime's rebirth. But when he learns what will happen will bring about the destruction of his end goal he strikes out with a group of loyalists to stop his new master even if that means teaming up with the Primes Optimus & Rodimus as well as their Autobots.

Sentinel Prime - Sentinel Prime believes in speciesism, Cybertronians are the superior species in the universe. Believing he was chosen by Primus to carry the Matrix and bring about a pure Cybertronian utopia, Sentinel waged a war against the Colonies. But this was cut short by a revolutionist named Megatron and Sentinel was thought dead. But he has returned and plans to take back the Matrix from Optimus Prime to complete his end goal, starting with killing all the living creatures on Earth and any Autobot who stands in his way. Following his defeat and capture Sentinel tries to get Prowl to join his side, believing that their shared devotion to Cybertron above all will convince Prowl to join his cause & free him.

Nova Prime - Nova Prime was once a protege to Prima and helped free Cybertron from Quintesson rule. Following his mentor's death, Nova was chosen to lead Cybertron. But his attempts at evolving his home world caused the deaths of many and he fled Cybertron with a small crew. He'd wind up in the dead universe where he met Unicron and pledged his loyalty to the Lord of Chaos. Now Nova Prime is hellbent on bringing Unicron back from the dead universe, hoping to use Unicron to reconquer the world that banished him not knowing Unicron plans to destroy Cybertron.

Unicron - The Lord of Chaos, he was one of the first beings created in the Universe alongside Primus. But Primus soon banished Unicron to the Dead Universe. Unicron waited and soon enough Primus' own creations soon found him and he had the key needed to finding a way out. Once freed Unicron now sets his sights on Cybertron. While his physical body was destroyed by Rodimus Prime in an attempt to destroy Cybertron/Primus, Unicron still tries to find a way to destroy Cybertron.

The Quintessons - Descended from Quintessa Prime, they are a five faced squid like species obsessed with their own twisted sense of judgement. They originally conquered Cybertron in the days following the Primes departure but were driven off by the last of the Thirteen Prima when he killed Quintessa Prime who led the charge. Now they strike out on their own, making a home on the planet Quintessa. But one day, they will have the army rebuilt with the means and ability to retake Cybertron in the name of their creator. Once they are thwarted by Rodimus Prime, they are now left on house arrest and on constant surveillance stuck to forever stay on Quintessa and forced to help the Cybertronians when they unfortunately need their help.

Megatronus Prime - A barbarian from the days of the Thirteen Primes. He'd be betrayed by Liege Maximo and tricked into leading a war against his brothers. This ended when he ended up killing his love Solus Prime and being sealed away on the planet Titan by Prima & Alpha Trion. Once freed by Nova Prime, Megatronus worked with Unicron for a time to gain power. Once Unicron was destroyed, Megatronus was now free to focus on his goal to revive Solus Prime. Gathering the artifacts and material needed he will not only save Solus Prime but Cybertron itself. How? Well once his invention goes off 99% of all Cybertronians will die, resources are finite and he plans to end the conflict before it kills his home.

Liege Maximo, Jhiaxus, & Megaplex - Liege Maximo was the trickster Prime, he caused the Thirteen Primes to go to war and caused Solus Prime to die. He'd evade the other Primes and fled from Cybertron. Jhiaxus was a scientist who worked for Nova and had two students named Shockwave & Zarak. He was believed to have died when Nova's ship enter the Dead Universe. Liege Maximo would find Jhiaxus barely alive and floating through space and revived him. Learning that the war between the Autobots & Decepticons ended when they worked together to defeat Megatronus, Liege & Jhiaxus built a new army intent on conquering Cybertron and defeating the supposedly weakened unified and peaceful Cybertron. Megaplex was built as a clone of Megatron and was left with a superiority complex, hellbent on proving he is better than Megatron meaning he is more then willing to lead Jhiaxus' army to conquer Cybertron and killing the ruling Prime Windblade.

Megatron(BW) - A street rat living in a Maximal controlled Cybertron, Megatron made a name for himself with his silver tongue convincing anyone to help in his foolish ploys. Even going so far as to name himself after the original Megatron. But he'd be betrayed and arrested by the Maximal council, sentenced to the prison ship the Axalon to be taken to Garrus 9. Using his silver tongue, Megatron led a small group of criminals in taking control of the ship long enough to crash it on Eukaris. Now Megatron and this small group of criminals calling themselves the Predacons, plan on building a ship off Eukaris and return to Cybertron to conquer it. They just have to deal with the small crew of Maximals that survived, led by Optimus Primal.

I’d love to really play around with some lesser characters and build them up. For example:

Red Wing - I’d take him from nondescript Seeker to part of the Decepticon brain trust. Red Wing will be the engineer that designed the Seeker body which led to Decepticon air superiority. He also designed the form with type of combat strategy in mind, which keeps him within Megatron’s inner circle. Red Wing is simply biding his time, though, waiting to take down Megatron and replace him, believing Megatron’s failure to win the war means he’s only useful as a symbol. Red Wing believes that symbol has outlived its usefulness. Red Wing never gets the chance to act because Starscream takes him out and exposes his treachery.

Magnificus - One of Shockwave’s trusted lieutenants, Magnificus has suffered greatly during the war. His T-Cog has been irreparably damaged, and his spark chamber has weakened to the point that cog cannot be replaced. Magnificus faces his inevitable breakdown, and is desperate to leave his mark on Cybertron - no matter what. He goes out on his own with a plan to decimate Iacon and wipe out the Autobots, but it could also destabilize Cybertron’s core. It forces the Wreckers to join forces with the Mayhem Attack Squad to stop Magnificus.

Straxus - “Convert or die. There are no other options for you.” Straxus needs to be the brutal warlord that even Decepticon Command can’t stomach. He’s effective, though, forcing unaffiliated Cybertronians into serving the Decepticon cause - either as gang-pressed foot soldiers or slaves. Anyone who refuses to serve is simply melted down into weapons and tools for the more cooperative. Straxus even makes a ceremony out of these horrific, ritualistic smeltings. He thrives on their fear. His fellow Decepticons despise him, but he keeps the supply lines flowing one way or the other.

Scalpel - Scalpel gets a humanoid form and a very specialized role. There are times an Autobots will fall in battle, but will regain consciousness only to notice his arms and legs have been removed. His torso has been propped up in a dark, mostly sterile room. There are the sounds of medical tools humming to life, and glowing green orbs - eyes belonging to something malevolent. Scalpel finally comes into focus, an emotionless, rictus grin on his face, and he explains to his victim exactly what is about to happen. He will be rebuilt. He will be restored. He will be reborn a Decepticon because Scalpel will wipe out his programming and completely replace it. He will feel every agony of the procedure, and will only remember the echoes of pain that will fuel his new warrior’s rage. He will leave Scalpel’s lab and will think nothing of killing his former Autobot compatriots. He will have no memeory of them. The Autobots will know, though, since Scalpel makes it a point to leave their original faces intact.

This seems fun. The Decepticons wouldn't be founded by Megatron. Rather they existed as the fallen faction in a previous war. A faction that was colonialist, carried a warrior's honour, and gave power to those who were deemed healthiest/most powerful, IE robots that turned into military-based forms. Megatron wouldn't be the one to start a neo-Decepticon movement, rather the Decepticons would be formed and founded by various players whose' collective influences would solidify the core philosophies of the movement. Though Megatron might rise to be the leader, he wouldn't be the only one contributing to the formation to the Decepticons and the events that would lead to the war. While the dominant Autobot philosophy entails eastern, even buddhist philosophies of isolation, peace, meditation, and acceptance of their fates, many in this society would recognize that due to the issues of overpopulation stemming from the long life-times of the Transformers, the distribution of the Creation Matrix's energies among the populace to allow for people to grant them the freedom to expand their "families" as they please, and the finite amount of resources on the planet that have been drained by a history of on and off wars with no identifiable beginning to them, will eventually spell extinction for the Transformers.

Megatron: In an effort to build Tarn's military presence on the world stage, a series of body-types built for infiltration, assassinations, and cyber-warfare were commissioned and produced by the ancient military mechanosmith the Liege Maximo. These soldiers were designed with alternate forms that allowed them to compact into weapons and instruments of destruction, including guns, reconnaissance devices, locks, tele/microscopes, and communications equipment (so, uh, microman toys). Megatron was one of these soldiers, his alternate mode being that of a laser pistol. Built in a classified weapons development facility under Tarn, he was immediately drafted into the military, and was set to work assassinating enemies of the state, defending it from foreign invaders, and cleaning up messes left behind by Tarn's corrupt leadership. He would be deployed beyond the lines of the state in war-torn nations on Cybertron, finding himself being forced to use whatever tools and consume whatever energy sources available to ensure his survival and the completion of his missions. Those who didn't use the resources available to them would perish, teaching Megatron a valuable lesson about survival. While robots like Megatron who were built for a specific purpose (in this case, to kill), they were programmed for their purpose as well. Megatron was programmed without any conception of mercy or compassion. Why would you need a gun to be compassionate? He would in fact gain a jolt of pleasure and satisfaction simply for completing his tasks, and experience great fear and pain for not following orders. Just as well, he could be shut down, and forced to back down at will by his superiors. A gun needs to have a safety, right? Apathetic and disenfranchised, living on a Cybertron that he felt was devoid of a solid cultural identity and on the brink of a climate crisis that would spell extinction without a new source of energy to save them, Megatron would find a great interest in exploring the ruins of the old, thriving civilizations for answers-- societies of conquistadors, adventurers, galactic protectors, and honour-bound warriors-- long destroyed from millennium of war. He discovered the long suppressed warrior cultures that was once attributed to military-grade robots such as himself, and had long before represented Transformer cultures of the past, further cementing and justifying his own identity. As the famine continued, and Cybertron's Autobot leadership projected its isolationist, meditative, "eastern" philosophies, Megatron came to realize that military-grade mechanoids of Cybertron did not have a voice of their own in a world ruled by these Autobots and their fears of reigniting conflict. To make his voice heard, Megatron did away with his military function and became a gladiator-- one to foster good relations between the fracturing city-states, and in turn becoming a celebrity adored by the masses. As his fame grew, so did his blind ego and the decadence of his lifestyle, and the words he preached about warrior culture and as the need to end the meditative philosophies of the Autobots to ensure the survival of their race, began to take root. His own beliefs in them began to be more about himself, and his status, than that of Cybertron. A typical celebrity blind to reality. Using his connections with the growing influence of Tarn's military in collaboration with several other like-minded bots, Megatron began to influence the Decepticon movement from his platform and inspire others with his controversial and populist views. His masters would try to control him and make him submit, yet through sheer perseverance, and fostering his rage over what the Autobot leadership's fatalist beliefs spells for the Cybertronian race's survival and the destruction of the culture of his forefathers, Megatron was able to break out of his programming, and vowed never to be controlled again. It would only take the escalation of a conflict to provide the beloved military hero/celebrity athlete the tools he would need to convince the world that the Decepticons-- more specifically, he himself-- is the solution to Cybertron's collective survival and further glory.

Starscream: Hailing from Cybertron's most technologically advanced nation, Vos, Starscream has considered himself an adventurer and explorer-- using his powerful Seeker-class tetrajet mode to explore Cybertron's unexplored surface, and enigmatic underworld, and seek out new technologies, cultures, and resources on, above, and beneath Cybertron. Starscream has always taken great pleasure in claiming new, undiscovered lands and societies, and prided himself in his negotiation skills and role as an ambassador with these lesser nations. Despite this, his experience dealing with cultures less privileged and scientifically advanced than his own came to teach him that those who were affiliated with these lesser societies were closer to savages, and found little value in them compared to technologically superior frames such as himself and other Vosians. Though he provided much to Vos's scientific progress in his explorations, Starscream was more than disappointed to find various restrictions on his job due to the ruling Autobot Overlords' laws against interference with other cultures beyond consensual information gathering, and found that robots such as himself were easily discarded and forgotten about in these dangerous seeking missions. After the loss of his close friend Skyfire, Starscream began to believe that these sub-transformer cultures were being treated better and with more reverence than the robots tasked by those under Autobot Overlord powers who risked their lives to discover them. He began to find himself more and more disenfranchised with his position and in turn reinforcing his belief in his own superiority over these other less deserving cultures of savages and insects. Inspired by the developing Decepticon movement, Starscream enrolled at the Vosian military academy, and found himself rising through the ranks, in turn aligning himself closer to the increasingly popular Decepticon philosophies of taking military action in order to save Cybertron's most prestigious society from its energy crisis, rather than submitting to its destruction for the sake of protecting the lives of savages and aliens who likely won't have a chance of surviving the developing crisis anyway. With the death of Vos's Overlord, the famine reaching new catastrophic heights, and with the help of his own skills in negotiation and deception, Starscream found himself rising to become part of the newly reformed Vosian Government, now led by a board of controlling military dictators, and eventually rising to the role of Chairman of the board. Though he is now the one making the decisions in Vos, Starscream recognizes that with Overlord power still absolute, he still faces certain restrictions and is unable to engage in his ideal conquest without reprimand. Considering himself, and the scientific and exploratory progress of Vos to be supreme in Autobot culture, Starscream also recognizes the threats poised to his power by the substandard Tarnians, Kaonians, and Iaconians, and will stop at nothing to ensure they don't get ahead of him in the developing Decepticon world order. Conquest is survival. Conquest is built on the ashes of one's enemies, and anyone who isn't as handsome and sophisticated as himself, or his state, is an enemy.

Soundwave: One of Tarn's greatest strategies was the development of new, military-grade robots that could transform into powerful equipment. Soundwave and his kind were created to transform into technologies that could sense electric impulses, pick up the quietest audio, and send communications over vast distances. Upon coming into contact with an alien race, the Eurythmans, the Soundwaves were gifted to this race by the Tarnian Government as a means of sharing technologies in good faith. In reality, Soundwave and his kin were traded over as information gatherers, and did so by establishing a collective information grid, or internet, across Eurythma that would boost communications technology forward by several centuries. They would, in fact be gathering information about the Eurythmans, their technologies, and key figures, and send it back to Cybertron for analysis. Through this, Soundwave would not only come to understand, but actively exploit the corruptions of Eurythman society, and through the orders from his superiors, would blackmail the planet's leadership to benefit relations with Cybertron. When it came out that China-- I MEAN CYBERTRON had been spying on the alien's inner workings and manipulating them, a mass destruction of the Soundwaves occurred across Eurythma. It had been decided that the existence of the Soundwave information grid was detrimental to the privacy of the Eurythmans, but more importantly, was bad news for the image of the Eurythman politicians in the eyes of their public. Suffering the deaths of his kin a thousand times over, Soundwave would blackmail his owner into returning him to Cybertron, hopeful that the aliens will see retribution for the mass murder of his kind with the justification that the Transformers were "just robots". Instead, to avoid further conflict, the Autobot Overlord leadership reprimanded Tarn for the cyber warfare they had committed, and paid recompense to Eurythma with much of Tarn's fortunes. Harboring no good will to the organics who murdered his kind and deemed him nothing more than a machine, Soundwave began an anti-organic movement on Cybertron through anonymous communications bursts, using a simplified depiction of his face as a sigil, all the while citing the previously ruling Decepticon society as a reference for how Cybertron should deal with its short-life-spanned organic neighbors, in turn disavowing the Autobots' politically correct leadership. Unfortunately, his monotoned voice and lack of charisma has been failing to convince as many as he would hope. Though he preaches his ideas in private, he now works in Tarn as a communications officer for the military, working only a few doors down from that pistol transformer with the anger issues.
He is Soundwave, let the revolution begin now.

If new character... See link in my Signature...

If we're talking about existing TF villains...

I really want a younger version of Megatron. Not the ruthless Tyrant we all know but someone who's going to become that in the future. He'd be friends with Optimus, I'd have him as an Autobot to begin with before he takes over the Decepticons.

Starscream is going to be similar but a bit different as he's going to start out as the leader of the Decepticons... a small group of them at least. He's not really a very good leader as the Decepticons at this point are mostly disorganized petty criminals who serve their own goals rather than a single common goal.

Starscream would be dethroned by the Fallen who would actually bring all the Decepticons under a common goal while also essentially serving as the Palpatine to Megatron's Anakin... except by the time Megatron finally does join the Decepticons officially he's going to kill the Fallen and rally all the forces he built up under a new goal.

Starscream ends up hating Megatron and constantly trying to over throw him to get back what he feels was actually taken from him in the first place.

Shockwave, also originally an Autobot, has always been friends with Megatron. Initially Shockwave would stay with the Autobots only to serve as a spy, secretly reporting to Megatron from the inside. Publicly he acts as if Megatron betrayed him to keep up his cover. This would create some distrust in Optimus who was also part of the friend group but Optimus is completely unaware of their Decepticon activities.

Soundwave was always a know Decepticon even when his brother Shockwave was a real Autobot. He was kept in prison while Shockwave was undercover which helped keep his cover because why would someone keep his own brother locked in a jail cell if they were both Decepticons? Well no one knew that Soundwave could transmit secret messages across a hidden frequency in code during their visits.

Most of all... I don't want every Decepticon to be just blatantly evil for no reason. I want to take some time to develop their motivations. They don't have to all be sympathetic like they're doing the wrong thing but for good reasons, I just want them to be written in a way that feels like how a real person might act rather than just because it's the worst thing you can think of doing.
