I haven't read the novel, and don't plan on reading it, but for those who have I want to know how it compares to the original film. And if you think its a good story in general... no spoilers please.
I think it sounds really good based off the book, a story that obviously had thought put into it, and not just thrown together to get a sequel out.
ROTF-8.5/10: Pros- Spoiler Many new charecters with intiricit and unique designs. THe return of Megs is another positive. The Matrix being introduced suprised me, in a good way, and so did the Constructicons, but most of all, I love that Combining is brought to the big screen. Cons- Spoiler Because, they took out alot of good things, like Springer and the Triplets combining. It dosn't seem like many Autobots die, while the Decepticons lose Rampage, Ravage, The Fallen, The Doctor, and Mabye Devy. And the fact that it still has yet to focus more on the Robots, less on the humans. TFTM-5.5/10: Pros- The origanal Autobot and Decepticon teams are PERFECT for the movies. Sam is best human character in any TF related-thingy every(that excludes Sari)! The alt-modes were perfect, as the should have been. Cons-The whole FREAKIN story. The forced jokes were unececery. The Autobots took out the Decepticons to easly.
It seems to be a more focused story this time instead of jumping round to different stories and trying to get them to all mesh at the end. More sci-fi elements that should help the feel of the film to tilt more to being about the robots, but still enough human elements so it's not all robots. Still plenty of standard Hollywood summer action film cliches so it's not the greatest movie story ever, but you should like the second film's story better.
I think the second one will be better than TFTM 07 because there's not too much establishling of the bots and cons like there was in the last film. I've only read the comic adaptation but it jumps right into what should be some great action. I hope theres more characterization in the film, and I'm sure there will be
This all sounds really good I actually really enjoyed the first movie but I grew up with G1 so I wanted a bit more focus on the transformers. I just have been let down this year with wolverine and terminator salvation(to a lesser extent) I'm just hoping this doesn't follow the trend and turn into half the movie it's predecessor was.
If you liked the first film then the chances sound pretty good so far that you will enjoy the second film as well. Plus the trend has been for things go bad in the third film not the second film. Spiderman 2, Shrek 2, and Pirates 2 were all good only for the third film to go all to heck so you've got a while before you have to worry about a Transformers film.
