How would you fit the GI Joe movies into the Transformers movie continuity without "rebooting"?

GI Joe had a different President than what we saw or were alluded to in the first three Transformers films. (Namely George Bush and Obama, who were real life Presidents as opposed to the generic nameless President in GI Joe Rise of Cobra.) However, if the GI Joe films are meant to take place in the "near future", i.e. after Dark of the Moon...why did the Joes never acknowledge the existence of alien robots?

If Hasbro wants to create their own movie universe, they may need to put some extra thought into how it will all fit together without a DOFP-style "restart". I imagine that's why they hired a dozen of the most talented writers from the industry to work out some of the finer details.

    What do you think?

Honestly, I don't really think the first two movies are worth trying to salvage with a third, so I'd rather they just reboot if they plan to incorporate G.I. Joe into the TFCU and/or the HCU.

Definitely not worth it. If the GI Joe movies were terrific then sure, but they're a mess, so trying to fit those in would be devastating in regards to storytelling. It'd kinda be like trying to fit the X-Men universe into the MCU. No way for it to work.

Yeah, the rebooted GI Joe would have to look so aesthetically different 'cos there's no point in hoping for a comeback by The Rock now he's got more money than God these days.

GI Joe would be the safe one to reboot since they never burned up the box office in either the US or overseas. It's not like Paramount would be risking a big money maker. So just have GI Joe form as part of the reaction to alien robots showing up and tearing up cities. Heck it would even be an excuse for Cobra to have such cool gear if technology is getting out there in the wrong hands.

The Joes have already more or less be in the films. Just give Lennox a code name of Duke, and Epps as Ripcord. And rename their team.

A new GI Joe is the better option. Maybe NEST/TRF is where it may come from...?

One of these series is gonna need to reboot for a crossover to work. I think we all know which one that will be....

I'm one of the few who doesn't care much for a crossover between the two.

But don't they pretty much have no choice but to reboot because of Duke. In the second film they killed him off and it would be easier to reboot the series rather than write a complicated reason for how he survived. Or in the case of Storm Shadow, not even bother trying to come up with a reason and have him just appear.

Does anyone even care about GI Joe?
Do we need more cinematic versions?
Does Hasbro have a lot invested? Funnily enough, the only thing about them i remember from the 80's is the commercial theme tune! "Action Force, the greatest heroes of them all!"

What possible benefit could there be to not rebooting the GI Joe movies? Pretty much all the Joes got killed off except Roadblock, Falcon pretending to be Flint, some generic female character calling herself Lady Jaye, and Snake-Eyes. Duke was dead from the beginning of the first movie, when they hired a semi-sentient mannequin to play him. And don't get me started on the COBRA characters.

The GI Joe movies are part of the reason I laugh when I hear people complain about the TF films.

Back in the 80's GI Joe was huge. It was the flag ship brand of Hasbro and often you found stores making more room for GI Joe toys than the Transformers toys so hard to imagine now but there was a point in pop culture where you could argue that GI Joe was bigger than Transformers. They also had the luck of it was when the rules about cartoons on US television changed so they got to part of that early wave of cartoons aimed at selling toys.

But after A Real American Hero started running out of ideas in the era of neon colored toys and the cartoon series went from Sunbow/Marvel to DIC the brand was just ran out steam and out of ideas. Hasbro tried some new cartoons like GI Joe Extreme, Sigma 6, GI Joe Resolute, and GI Joe Renegades, but they were no where close to the insane popularity of A Real American Hero. The brand has been stuck in the shadow of it's biggest moment.

For Hasbro I imagine they still dream of being able to sell GI Joe toys like they did back in the 80's, you can never have too many big brands making boat loads of money. For toy fans it was a great age because there was a lot of imagination and creativity that went into characters and vehicles. With nostalgia sometimes resulting in monster box office runs I'm sure Paramount wouldn't mind a boat load of money if they could ever tap that market. Plus if Paramount could get another huge franchise going that would mean everything doesn't have to ride on Transformers for the foreseeable future.

Ninja, lasers, snake themed villains, gun play, explosions, comic book style villains, cool vehicles, punch em up, shoot em up, action, adventure, honestly it's a bit shocking that Paramount can't seem to make a good movie out of all the elements they have to work with.

I agree. It might actually work since they've already paired the Autobots with the military in the films.

I'm not sure I would. But perhaps if they got introduced to work with the Joes to fight off both human enemies and Decepticons. Still, a reboot makes more sense.
