All of a sudden Hasbro decides to create a couple of Exclusive Botcon TF Alternators this year or the next (if the line still lives)? Do you think it would be a good idea? Would Hasbro approach this idea?

Would you spend double, triple, or maybe 4x more to get these if you didn't attend Botcon and your only way to get it is through ebay or a fellow board members?

Anything is possible. They tried this with the Beast Wars line before and I don't know how much people liked them, but basically most of them, if not, all were repaints.

Just a thought, and I really hope it doesn't happen, ya know... unless Botcon takes place in NYC  

 

I think they'd make great exclusives to be honest with you and would actually rather pay higher prices for Alternator exclusives than regular exclusives.

I guess it depends on the characters. I would expect that for Botcon they'd be kind of left field type choices. They could be anything including characters from series other than G1. I only really like the Alts. that feel like an MPish version of a G1 character, so I probably wouldn't be interested in any crazy Botcon Alts.

 

Sure, I'd buy 'em. I'd go to the con if I could.

 

I'd rather them be regular releases... Or at least make the exclusives available to non attendees...

 

Character would be a huge factor obviously. But more than that, it would damn well need to be part of the regular con exclusive package and not either the giveaway (Flamewar) or strictly con exclusive toy (Ratchet). If it's part of the regular exclusive set that can be ordered by non-attendees then that'd be fine. Even so, it'd most likely be a case of not everybody being able to get one.

 

Alt Botcon exclusives? I can dig it. Ooooh! An Alt Nemesis Prime exclusive!! Now THAT would be craptacurarlally awsome.

 

Maybe people can FINALLY get their damned Trailbreaker/Ironhide that they've been crying about... 

 

The possibility for Alt repaints (even outside the Botcon sphere) is almost unlimited. From some of the BTs and the customs I've seen, you could just go on forever with these guys.
-BT Alert (I would LOVE to see this guy released as an Alt)
-Alt Red alert/Infero (Hound repainted in red and white rescue colours)
-Alt Nemesis Prime (take a wild guess)
-Alt Trailbreaker (Hound repaint probably)
-Alt Soundwave (Grimlock repaint)

Those are just some off the top of my head. The Alt line is SO much potential I just want to crap my pants.

I don't spend double, triple or 4x for ANY exclusives. I just reach for the Krylon and the paintbrushes. I think the 2005 exclusives were prohibitively expensive for my budget and I'll probably have the same opinion about the 2006 exclusives, Alternators or not.

I mean, they'd have to do a DAMN FINE job of recreating a REALLY LOVED character for me to be interested.

Perhaps Botcon exclusives *could* also introduce us to a whole new category of Alternators outside of civilian vehicles (military/aerial) or new class size. OR maybe they can create characters outside of G1 (Nemesis Prime/Scourge) since the current Alt line consists of that.

Here's another thought.. what if the Alt. exclusives were die-cast (like BTs). Would that ruin your collection seeing that all Alts are plastic?

Edit: Yeah... painting a figure to your likings is perfectly fine too. That's an alternative that most people go for when they can't wait til the actual figure comes out (ie Sunstreaker)
