The last year or so seems to have been a very Dinosaur themed time for TF in general.

FOC Grimlock perhaps was the starting point, more recently we've seen live action Dinobots and their respective toys. Even rescue bots have been hit by this bug with key characters being re-imagined in a more (kid friendly) feral form.

So my over arching question is how would you feel about themes beings used every few years - maybe not as the exclusive focus but possibly a side project - where key characters are re-imagined for that theme.

Currently it is Dinosaurs, maybe next would be space travel or deep sea exploration or it could be something like animals or monsters.

Point being if the powers that be ran with this would you be for it, against it or take it all as it comes?

I'd quite like to see a water-themed series. Set it in the far future where all Earth's ice caps have melted and we're in a Waterworld scenario. Some humans live on water and others live in undersea cities so there's friction between social classes. Then have TF with underwater bases and submersible and various boat alt modes. Plus a few flying alts since the air is still somewhere they could fight. Maybe there are flying human and TF cites as well so we could have a few ground vehicle TF that don't like water. Then sprinkle in some TF with undersea animal alts like shark, octopus, sea monster and so on, some semi-organic alt modes and some fully mechanical. Somewhere there's a mythical island that managed to avoid getting sunk so we could have the occasional story set there and a few more ground-based alts and beast modes.

I could see lots of high seas adventures and deep sea explorations and battles. Plus it's got a bit of an environmental theme too.

Some toys could be all-plastic so they can be played with in water and not risk rust to pins. rivits or screws. Lots of water-squirting weapons and water temperature-sensitive colour-changing plastics. Firing torpedo TF. Inflatable or sealed hollow parts to allow alt modes to float if they don't have watertight hulls. Sails and wind-up propellers for actual waterborne propulsion in play.

Just off the top of my head.

I'd be okay with this concept of themes.

And by theme you mean gimmick?

When I think of theme I think more of the deeper attempt of giving a moral or message of a story like AOE is about doubt and then learning to trust again. That's what I define as theme.
