'ComicHub' Temporary Distribution System 'Isn't Going Forward'
I wonder if this whole ordeal will make both Marvel and DC decide to sell their characters to the public domain? Extreme I know and also unlikley since people here have commented that they'll sell their characters to other publishers but with how other comic companies aren't doing any hotter then they are what would be the point? They also can't keep selling only past books forever. With the characters in the public domain everyone can have a chance of keeping those characters alive and thriving in some way. some companies are doing it with the public domain superheroes and villains like how we got Miss Fury comics in the modern era so what do they have to lose?
You can't sell to the public domain...that's not how it works.
Also, no, Marvel and DC are the strongest players in the game by far and they will outlast the Direct Market.
Marvel and Dc can't sell their characters. What would happen is they would be forced to close and stop publishing then other companies would be forced to pay the WB and Disney to license their characters and make comics out of them. So you might see Dark horse or image publishing Marvel or Dc. IDW is in a lot of money trouble so they probably won't last.
Having their characters in the public domain doesn't just allow the usage in publishing, it's everything - movies, tv, toys, etc - and no way are DC and Marvel going to give up all that licensing money. Comics is just a drop in the bucket for both companies at this point - the biggest reason they're still going on is that they're a low priced option to create and test new IPs and new story concepts that they can build upon in other more far reaching and profitable businesses.
Honestly not surprised too many questions left unanswered for something that big to go forward too fast.
Kadansha manga going digital only for now then will release the trades later.
Dark horse giving away free digital comics and letting kids read many of their Disney, popeye and scary godmother comics for free.

Devils due is also giving away free digital comics.
Nice selection for DH! Thanks!
That's a little disingenuous to blame Marvel as an entity when nothing of Marvel now really resembles Marvel then. Put the Heroes World debacle on Ron Perelman and his bullshit. Throw in Ike Perlmutter if you want. But the brand itself really doesn't have much to do with it, and I doubt 99.9% of the posters here know any better
Sure, all different (not really, but for the sake of argument). But every new regime at Marvel eventually falls back into the same mistakes anyway. And the poster I was responding to was actually suggesting Marvel repeat the mistake that decimated the distribution system, put many people out of work and nearly tanked the industry. So whatever. But yeah, let's white knight faceless corporations.
Seen on a few Youtube videos that IDW is putting Ninja Turtles and GiJoe on hiatus.
Well, they’re putting everything ongoing on hiatus, not just those two.
It seems those two are beyond the temp shutdown that everything else is on.
What sucks is GIJoe ARAH is the only comic series I get.
It's definitely the only IDW comic series I get.

MARVEL Not Releasing Any Print or Digital Titles on April 8
Well, I got distracted by restricting my life in quarantine time, but finally took time to have my final week of comics from my LCBS shipped, which arrived today. When I talked go them over the phone, they seem to be hanging in there, so I hope they make it through. I'm glad I could at least finish "Queen of The Black Coast", though it sucks I won't be getting the follow up series "Red Nails" anytime soon, especially if a small company like Ablaze falls under. Best wishes to all the comic shops and small prints outside The Big Two.
