So, odds are that GM is going to go bankrupt. My understanding is that Michael Bay is in an exclusive contract with GM, stating that they will provide cars for the TF movies. So, if GM goes under, how will that affect TF3 (if/when it happens)?

bankruptcy doesn't mean the end of GM cars. It won't affect the movie at all.

I'm sure that if it smells like GM will cave, Bay will buy an ungodly amount of GM cars to ensure he has plenty of them to destroy ;)

It might prompt him to start looking for non-GM vehicles as well (for good guys :D ). Not saying he hasn't tried already, but it might be more incentive for him to push harder at getting another company or two on board.

There are lots of characters that are not cars at all (Aerialbots, Shockwave, etc). Plenty of options, regardless.

From the news tonight it sounds like GM will file on Monday.

For several characters it's not going to matter because their car modes are things that are already in production or still may see production by the third film so they could just get the cars from one of the remaining dealers.

Where it could hurt is things like the prototype and concept cars as GM might not have the resources to loan those out to film production companies. We've already seen this year that GM wasn't able to push the film in their ads like they could during the first film. So while Bay might be helping GM sell cars GM will not be helping Bay sell Transformers so it will be more of a one way street than the you scratch my back I'll scratch yours they enjoyed before.

I doubt it effects the movie at all.
They will be restructured and out of Bankrupcy court before Bay gets back from his vacation.
GM hasn't even pulled out of Nascar have they?

Interesting, how the brand that could save Chrysler is put down while Chrysler's brands themselves do not have even one car that is recommended by Consumer Reports.

You're going to get mudder dude all riled up with this post. Don't you know that all American cars are top quality products precision engineered to the highest exacting standards? The fuel efficiency of American cars alone FAR exceeds that of any non-domestic brand.

    <End Sarcasm>

I think I brought up GM's possible bankruptcy last summer and was saying how Hasbro should diversify so that they don't find themselves in this exact same position. It couldn't be worse timing for Hasbro - GM filing for bankruptcy 24 days before the movie hits theatres. By the time the cable news networks get done with their 24 hour coverage on the bankruptcy, political posturing, and puff pieces on GM - the movie will get here, with the bankruptcy fresh on the minds of the movie audience.

What I really think is funny is the hillbilly-bots. Not ha-ha funny, but sad really. GM had THE perfect opportunity to show off its 2 brand spanking new cars in the TF movie and they go make them out to be ******ed gremlins. These cars are going to be totally new - not modified cars, but completely new cars. These are the kinds of cars that are going to be GM's bread and butter for the new energy future and ALREADY GM is going to allow the small cars to be put down. While Ratchet (Hummer) and Ironhide (GMC) are not the strongest of brands. (GMC and Chevy have the exact same trucks and SUVs - just with different names. Hummer, well, we all know about Hummer.) Ratchet and Ironhide get played up. Very poor choice from a marketing stand point as the Hummer could possibly no longer exist in civilian form and GMC is a very niche brand. Sideswipe is supposed to the "Legolas" type, yet not very many people are going to be able to afford a Corvette. Bumblebee himself is a sports coupe that isn't going to be bought by the vast majority of people. They make the really cool characters all vehicles far out of reach of the average joe.

Sigh, lets just hope Hasbro has more forethought next time with such matters...

They're not hillybillies or ******ed, read the novel/comic/wait for movie and you'll see.

Their personalities were handled much better than, say, TFA Bee and Bulkhead or Runabout and Runamuck (just two young duos that came to mind).

maybe bay will consider using more foreign cars now (he must have something against them seeing as how SPOILERS he kills off Sideways, an Audi, in like....2 minutes.)

is it genuine bankruptcy or business bankrputcy, like the kind trump occasionally goes for to cover losses?
there's no exclusive gm contract either, MB just has a really good working relationship with them. scratching eachothers backs so to speak.

As long as we don't see a buttload of Japanese cars. Like they REALLY need more publicity (looking at you, Toyota and your spamming of that Prius commercial)

I say more Fords (the new Fiesta comes to mind), and some Dodges (who DOESN'T wanna see a Challenger bot!)

Yes, because we all know that consumer reports is the authority on everything, and that they're never wrong or biased.  I'm no dodge lover, just sayin.

What are you basing this off of?
    Chevy Fuel Solutions | Chevrolet
Toyota Model Selector - All Vehicles
With the exception of the Prius, Chevy about beats or matches the hwy mpg for most of Toyota's comparable cars, give or take 1 or 2 mpg for a few.

    Umm.... No.

Buttload? Please. The pendulum is swung ALL the way towards only domestic cars except for the Audi which gets killed very quickly.

Why not just have a proportional representation of the cars actually on the road? If 20% of people drive a Toyota - make 20% of the cars in the movie a Toyota. So on and so forth. That way everyone is satisfied.

Right now, its all domestic all the time, and frankly, thats very embarassing to the TF brand.

Come on. Appearance is how people judge others (and yes I know its not the way it should be, but thats how things are). If you went to your doctor's and he came out dressed like a clown would you trust him?

well it likely will have some effect but GM Vehicles that are guarenteed to be in like Bumbelebee can be bought up now, Hummers for ratchet will need to be bought now as the brand is strongly rumored to be shut down, can't remember if there any Pontiacs in the movies but they will have to bought now as well as its gone, RIP firebird, GTO and so on

Business bankruptcy not the we are broke and going out of business bankruptcy so while the company will have to scale back it's not going to totally shut down.

It's a bit like how the big airlines went bankrupt years ago but kept flying as they restructured their debt.
