How well received was Galvatron compared to Megatron ? And why did Hasbro use toys of Megatron again

    I feel like your second question answers your first.

    Galvatron being an upgraded Megatron, rather than a new character, definitely helped his reputation compared to Rodimus who outright replaced Optimus. The name and concept of Galvatron also recurs fairly often, and the character still gets toys and notoriety, but Megatron is more popular. Even back in G1 Hasbro understood how the classic characters were still popular with Acton Masters and eventually G2. Megatron will always supersede Galvatron in popular culture.

    Megatron is just more popular than say galvatron who only know as a crazy leader with no set goal for troops

    Also worth keeping in mind that galvatron being present, in fiction at least, means megatron as a trademark goes unused and they risk it being "abandoned". Unless they pull a marvel/idw and have the two as different entities

    Adding onto this, Megatron's popularity can also be attributed to his relationship with Optimus. The two of them are just too iconic of a hero/villain pair, their dynamic is much more memorable than that of Rodimus and Galvatron. They shared way more scenes and episodes in the G1 toon, and were there from the beginning.
