I'm interested in it, but wasn't sure how well the AHM series was? iTunes has them in volumes for under $13 each, 1 is $12.99, 1 $7.99, and 2 $9.99. Are they worth the price? Is the storyline good? I enjoyed and am enjoying the RID and MTMTE ongoings right now.

I didn't think it was horrible. But some people did.

I think it was very good if you read it as a stand alone, which I actually did, since that was the first series I ever read. So yeah, VERY good IMO

I enjoyed it. Actually I liked it better than Ation era that preceded it.

How much of the IDW series have you read? I think the amount of (for lack of a better word) baggage you have with IDW continuity will influence your enjoyment of All Hail Megatron.

I can see you enjoy RiD and MTMTE. Me too! I consider MTMTE one of the best comic series I've ever read. I think MTMTE is considerably better than RiD, though RiD has its appeal for me. If MTMTE and RiD are your only baggage in the IDW series, I advise you to stay clear of All Hail Megatron. AHM will feel like a step down in almost every imaginable way. Moreover, RiD and MTMTE barely have any story elements you need to know from AHM.

If you've dabbled in the IDW continuity but missed All Hail Megatron, you might enjoy it as a fill-in-the-gaps thing.

Either way, we're talking about maybe 6 issues of story stretched over 12 issues, some confusing plot points, and no clear goal on either the Autobot or Decepticon sides.

All that being said...it's not terrible. If it's really cheap, I say go for it. Could make for an amusing afternoon read.

Ugh. What a waste of an idea. They spent issues showcasing characters doing things only to ultimately undo it all in an unexplained deus ex machina for no good reason.

Had they allowed it to continue on as a splinter universe and not had to do some of the things they did, it would've been much, much better.

I have read all of the MTMTE and RID, except a few of the new ones, I think the last 2 MTMTE, and #30 RID. I have all 6 TF Classics volumes, I am up to issue 31 in the 1980s series. Not sure how some feel about the 1980s series, I never read it as a kid, I was too busy with Nintendo, and TF Figures, and others.

I also already bought all of the Regerneration One issues.

I'm asking cause I have some itunes credit, and didn't know if it was a good buy.

Unfortunately they don't have Last Stand of The Wreckers. But I can buy that off of Amazon I imagine.

If you're considering AHM because of iTunes credit and you're not really interested, I'd recommend that you don't buy. Go for Last Stand of the Wreckers instead. Those 5 issues have more story than 12 issues of AHM.

Also, the storytelling structure was just weird. I argue that Issues 1-6 had the actual plot content of 1 or 2 concise issues. There's a lot of repetitive (but often GORGEOUSLY drawn) destruction porn as the Decepticons kill a lot of humans, but we're thrown headfirst into this story without any context. How did Megatron get so powerful? Why is Optimus Prime too injured to put up a fight? Why are the Autobots on Cybertron? I just flipped through my copies, and those answers don't start until Issue 7! Meanwhile, Issues 1-6 is just a bunch of pretty explosions.

Look, I understand suspense. I understand it could be exciting to be a bit curious about how things got this way before showing us the big "here's how it all happened." Breaking Bad and Hannibal made GREAT use of showing us flash-forward events and then showing us how we got there. Issue 1 was actually very exciting, because we had the chilling situation of an unimpeded Megatron doing what he wants to Earth. Little did I know this would continue for FIVE MORE ISSUES. Issues 7 and 8 REALLY should have been the first few issues.

This series waited waaaaaaaaaaay too long to provide things that, really, should have been made clear because they were fundamental to setting up the story. As-is, we start a story without the setup! It's like watching Game of Thrones by watching it Season 2, Season 3, Season 1, then Season 4.

It's a decent enough concept and story. Just brought down by a few factors:

-It doesn't gel perfectly with the plot or feel of the previous or later comics. It is very much a "edgy G1 cartoon" with a focus on a very small cast (who are mostly 84-85 G1 rather than the more mixed bag we had before and will have later. It makes the cast of under 20 Transformers feel like the only Transformers in the universe. Other IDW comics have made the universe seem HUGE.

-It's a slow burn. The first issue is little more than Decepticons attacking humans. That's it. But if you read it all at once in a trade, it's not bad.

Overall, it's not as bad as some people make it out to be, but it's not the highlight of IDW.

I'd agree with that. I don't think its blatant G1 cartoon love is a bad thing - I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy when the ol' boys get some spotlight as a group, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside - but it could have branched out a bit with its cast.

I remember a lot of the backlash came from characters just suddenly sporting classic modes for no reason (which never bothered me personally), and a few continuity flubs which were later fixed, but its greatest fault is that it just goes on far, far longer than it needs to. I'd say get Last Stand Of The Wreckers for a legitimately great story. AHM isn't the worst comic ever, but it's very middling.

Hmm. (I swear I don't work for IDW. Honest.) Could I talk you into getting the hardcover? I forgot how much I paid for mine (though I'm a notorious haggler so I know I got it for cheap), but it's worth every penny. The cover price is $29.99, and the Amazon price is $22 and some change which seems pretty good to me.

I usually don't like to go for hardcover or bonus features. The story is the story is the story, right? But with Last Stand of the Wreckers, you get a staggering amount of goodies. The meat of the extra features is 2 prose stories (e.g. writing-only, no pictures) that absolutely supplement the main story. Those prose stories alone are worth your money. There's also a 1-page mosaic showing how the new Wreckers got recruited, and another 1-page mosaic taking place after the story. There's ALSO a 2-page comic book short story about what 2 of the Wreckers are up to after the events of LSoTW.

And those are just my favorite special features! In addition to those, you also get the typical bonus stuff you'd get, like character profiles, some bonus art, and more stuff I'm forgetting!

You're getting a quality story with the softcover, but you're getting a 5-star immersive story experience with the hardcover.

Go for it. I still rank it above most of Costa and Furman's run.

Sure some things aren't the greatest about it, but it gave something that was missing from like 2 years from the comics---it gave most characters an individual VOICE and traits.

Pretty much every Decepticon present got their individual moment in the sun, there's some very nice dialogue from Starscream and Megatron [with things that were almost never again picked up], nice action sequences all around and very good art in tandem with colours.

Lots of people hate it, and I understand... there are some flaws in the series, to be sure. However, I think it still holds up. It has some very interesting ideas and some exciting takes on certain characters. Some people hated it for no better reason than it basically revised some of Furman's continuity... which I didn't care that much about.

I tend to be really critical of my TF comics, and I still kind of liked All Hail Megatron... especially after the IDW Furman run. One way of looking at it is that Furman focused on big events, while All Hail Megatron ended up focusing on characters and their interactions... which I was happy to see in TF comics for a change.

To simplify it, the beginning and ending of AHM are not very good. Everything in the middle is pretty decent. I would go so far as to say that the beginning and ending were probably written first, and everything else was written afterward... in any case, it feels like the writing improves a great deal, and then culminates in kind of a so-so finale.

Also keep in mind that the final volume of AHM is probably made up of the "codex" stories... basically short stories that fill in some of the blanks, or offer epilogues. They aren't really part of the main story... and they tend to be hit or miss. However, Nick Roche's Prowl story Everything in its Place is one of my favourite little TF stories ever, if that means anything. :)

You should get a kickback for this, cause I chose the HC over the SC. You won me over with the extras. Ships tomorrow, will be here in NY on Friday.

I think Last Stand of the Wreckers doesn't live up to the insane hype built up around it.

But that said, I have to agree that if you're going to read it, definitely shell out whatever few dollars extra it takes to get the hardcover rather than the softcover.
