Since it's been close to 30 years since G1 came out, I think we can all agree it still looks good to this day, I can watch G1 episodes and feel like like the fans who watched it when it orginally aired.

In another 30 years, what will the fans say about Prime?

Obviously it still won't be as good as Prime, and unlike Beast Wars (the last CGI series before Prime), it still won't have as many fans as Beast Wars does today. Now I admit the CGI in Prime looks better than Beast Wars, but look at Star Wars, people like the old series better! CGI isn't everything, heck it doesn't amount to squat in my book.

So like I said Prime looks better, but to me it just looks like the animation style is trying to ripoff Dreamworks anymation. The humans on the show looked like they just walked out of Sheck, just like green Prime next season! Why don't they call him Ogre-mus Prime?

Let's talk about the other characters:

Prime's version of Megatron looks the worst. He looks like Michael Bay's Megatron (not a good thing). He doesn't look like G1 at all. It's a good thing he's voiced by Frank Welker. WHY couldn't they find a better voice actor for Starscream? They could've got somone who sounded like Chris Collins but this guy sounds like Julia Child.

I'm also think it was dumb to make Unicron not a planet, but he comes from the Earth's soil. Is this robots were talking about or fantasy soil?

Another thing that makes Prime look worse than G! is that it takes itself way too literally. There's no fun in this series and when they try to make a joke it seems forced or like the writers didn't want to put a joke in but the Hub said that you have to have some jokes. The only funny character is Agent Fowler, when he says I can haz cheesburger?

Now the things that are good in Prime is thr fight scenes, it looks like the fight scenes, in G1 the fights were just shooting lasers but in Prime. Optimus isn't afraid to speak with his fists, and Megaton wouldn't mind showing Optimus his sword. Those hand to combat scenes are good, but what holds Prime back the most:

It going back to the status quo.

Like when it looked like Bulkhead would be out of comission, and he walked down the hall thinking he had been replaced by Smokescreen, who who cares? 2 episodes later and Bulk's back out on the field, kicking Con-butts along with Smokescreen. It's shameless advertising.

And the Insecticons, when Arachnid took control of them, then in the next episode, who' commanding them? Lord Megatron! Even though it looked like the Insecticons would be their own villain in the show as a secondary villain, they pledge their loyality to Megatron.

In 30 years, I think people will either forget about Prime or say it's not as good as G1. It' good, but at the end of the day it doesn't bring anything new to the franchise.

It'll still be better than the Michael Bay films. That I can tell you that.

I have a feeling when the next series "goes in the wrong direction and ruins this franchise" we could look at it a bit more fondly. I mean hey BM- Cybertron now had it's on share of fans. and guess what i'm one of those peeps.

i think the question is...what futuristic format will we be watching those in? @ the moment...probably streaming video, DVD or Blu Ray....but what's the next technological step? 3D Hologram TV? or something even more futuristic?

It will probably be like how the older generation look at G1 now, I didn't really watch that much of G1, but in the 30 years people can look back at Prime and think it wasn't that bad, it won't have as much appeal as G1 does, but it will still appeal to some people but the G1 series will not be out matched. But other transformers show will be going on TV in that time though.

I actually like Transformers Prime quite a lot. I am a child of the eighties and grew up with G1, it's those characters that I first loved and they still have a special nostalgic place in my heart. Having said that, i really can't watch the G1 cartoon without thinking how bad the animation is and how cheesy some of the dialog was. I love it for what it was, but it is very dated. And as far as ripping off dreamworks, is there any better cgi animation to try to emulate, besides maybe pixar? I also like Megatron on Prime, sure he does resemble Bayverse megatron, but he actually has a cannon and a face. He is a absolute beast on the show and Frank Welkers voice is just icing on the cake. Sure I would love to see a G1 reboot with the original character models used and just made all pretty with cgi, but honestly, it just isn't going to happen. Also, I hated Beast wars/machines, I thought it was a crappy concept, just my opinion, and no disrespect ment to it's legion of fans, but I just didn't get it.

They'll likely see it as a good series. However we'll know how much once we see how the series end.

Did the OP just basically say Shrek-formers?

    At this rate, no.

The movies are TFs first shot at live action. There was no precedent for live-action TF movies. Prime, however, has great shows like Animated and Beast Wars to live up to, and at this rate probably never will, without any excuse.

But when compared to other actual movie blockbusters the Michael Bay Transformers are the lowest of the low quality wise.

Why are you comparing it to G1 so much? Prime has it's own direction to take.

It is impossible to tell how a fandom that constantly grows will see a currently ongoing cartoon in a time frame that nearly doubles what the franchise currently has. Opinions will change over time. Standards constantly fluctuate. To try and predict that is a waste of time and effort.

Who cares. Most people that don't like it now, won't like it then, and vice Versa.

And when it comes to the next gen of viewers or fans. I guess they'll have split opinions as well.

I can't agree that G1 still looks good to this day.

Hell, I can't agree with the notion that G1 looked good in its own day. Not when they can't get the colors right, when the animation has more errors in it than the sun has hotness, and nothing in the script gave a crap about itself.

So, objectively, in 30 years, I'd have to say that Prime will be looked at as a superior product, since it doesn't fail so bad as G1.

Now, if you came in the OP saying, "Let's go with the argument that..." there'd be a difference. And that difference boils down to: It's harder for a show to stand on its own when it's the 10th, 20th, or whatever iteration of a franchise instead of the originator of said franchise.

Look at Star Trek as an example.

Well, I think I brought up a lot of valid points about what makes Prime inferior to G1 and can anyone say otherwise about the flaws I pointed out?

Show's not over, so it's impossible to predict how we'll think of it in the future. Only thing I can be sure about is that we'll still be demanding a US release of Voyager Breakdown.

Personally, I don't think G1 has held up well at all. Even though I grew up on it, I can't sit through a single episode now. I think Prime will probably fare better, thanks to the well written characters like Starscream and Knockout. Prime, while full of flaws, has yet to descend into the outright stupidity of G1 episodes like Carnage in C Minor, Atlantis Arise, Child's Play, or BOT. There's sloppy storytelling everywhere in Prime, but most single episodes still hold up on their own. Only when telling a larger story do they really fall apart.

Most of your complaints about Prime boil down to "It's not G1". Well, GOOD. It shouldn't be G1. We need more originality in Transformers. You complain about the status quo of prime, but at the same time you want it to conform to the status quo of G1? That's just... dumb. None of the "it's not like G1" points are valid.

Comparing Prime to Dreamworks/Shrek is stupid. It really is. The only things they have in common are the type of animation used. There are literally no similarities between the art styles of Shrek and Prime, especially when it comes down to how the humans look. Complaining because a toy (not the show model, just a toy) of Optimus has green windows, and saying he should be called "ogre-mus prime"? You actually expect to be taken seriously saying inane things like that? No. Not happening.

G1 is old. It has not aged well, and the expectation of everything to be like G1 is holding the entire franchise back and making it stale. It's time to move on. It's fine to love G1 for what it is, but give other shows the chance to stand on their own too.

I think it's gonna fall into a similar position as some Unicron Trilogy, frankly; primarily Cybertron. Obviously there will be some blatant differences- prime doesn't need to worry about translation or localization- but at the end of the day, who really remembers unicron trilogy as much more than a show which was advertising toys?

That's what I think Prime will be remembered for. Not for amazing story telling, or for bringing anything new to the table, but for simply existing as a show which exists to sell toys.

First of all, we have no clue how Optimus Prime will be designed next season, that knocks down that point.

Next, why does Megatron need to look like his G1 counterpart? This isn't G1: Prime, this is Transformers Prime. Also, the voice actor of Starscream does a great job portraying the Starscream of this continuity.

He doesn't come from "earth's soil", if you watched the season finale you would see that the core is filled with the metal of Unicron.

Ratchet, Knockout, and Wheeljack say hello to your "no comedy in the series"

The writers have announced that there will be no status quo in season 3.

"Shameless advertising"? Not. It was character development for Bulkhead. Bulkhead had never expierenced any competition as the strongest/fiercest Autobot.

Transformers Prime will be remembered because it brought freshness to the Transformers cartoon franchise.

What I believe that what Transformers Prime will be remembered for in my opinion is its reinventing certain characters into a fresh new light and bringing in newcomers. For example we have the first version of Arcee that's actually well made and liked by a lot of people,a version of Soundwave that's not a random G1 homage at all,a version of Unicorn that's interesting,Cliffjumper not being a red Bumblebee,Smokescreen that's a farily obscoure character that's not used often, and Knockout for being a new character that won a lot of love. Also that most of the human cast is one of the few well made ones too.

If TFP won't be remembered for storytelling then it will certainly be remembered for bringing in new characters that a lot of people like and old characters given fresh new faces.

I was going to make a big post but then I read OP and all I can say

    is that

I already know I like Prime much better than I will ever like G1 in 30 seconds for now. I also like shoving sharp things inside my eyes better than G1 too.
