Since he's the Autobot Supreme Commander I wonder if his strength will be up there with Grimlock and Megatron. I also wonder if he'll be smaller than Megs as well since it seems all the Cons are bigger than the Autobots with the exception of Blackarachnia.

The cons are bigger than OUR Autobots... but the Elite guard is just as combat designed and ready as the 'cons, so I'd imagine them being the same size.

I've been wondering about that myself. I suppose we won't know until the series continues, buuuuuut I would assume that since Magnus is the leader of the guard he would also be gigantic, at least as big as Megatron. If not, I will be a bit disappointed. The size disparity between Optimus and Megatron is huge, if you remember from the first episode. So wouldn't mature warrior Autobots be gigantic too?

Which begs the question, since robots don't grow, do they just do the "upgrade" thing like Lockdown to become more powerful? I don't know, but I'm interested in seeing how the writers deal with it.

The other issue I have is, the Decepticons are outfitted with guns and missiles. Our crew has axes and ninja stars. Bumblebee's stingers are the closest thing to a fireable weapon they have, and you saw how effective it was against Blitzwing (or not). You don't bring a knife to a gunfight. Are the Elite Guard going to have actual weapons?

I think people are forgetting that size and rank have nothing to do with one another. Autobots are more than just the good-guy equivelants of decepticons, you know. I would imagine they'd be bigger than other Autobots, but smaller than say, Megatron.

Remember, we've already seen Sentinel Prime with Optimus, and we've seen him compared to Ultra Magnus, so we have a basic idea of how big UM and Jazz are. (Jazz is about the same size as Prime, maybe a little shorter) UM seems to fit comfortably between Optimus Prime and Megatron size-wise.

I'll agree with Split Lip. Sentinel and Optimus are about the same height. Jazz i don't think would be too much taller than them. And Magnus, being as bulked up as he, is probably among the largest of the Autobots, tho' compared with Bulkhead i'm not sure, but he wouldn't be as big as Megatron i think.

id probably say close to Megatron in size and power, but maybe smaller by a little. cause Sentinel is a bit taller than Optimus, and Magnus seems to be alot taller than him. but as for Jazz, id guess he's the shortest of the Elite Guard but still taller than most other Autobots. but maybe his smaller size is more helpful than his larger one.

and from what i can tell, Jazz's weapons are Nunchucks, Sentinel's is that shield, and Magnus has his giant hammer. im guessing they arent giving Autobots weapons like guns and whatnot cause they dont want to associate goodguys and guns like they used to.

Good point Torque I had not thought of that hell does anyone have a actually gun?? I have only seen episodes 9-13 and that is just dumb if not. Even blitzwing didn't have a "gun" he shot from those twin cannons. when did cartoons start getting ruined by liberal pansies?? Give em guns, geez Axes and hammer are stupid.

On topic though I hope Optimus gets an upgrade as UM being stronger then him is just blows my mind. Size doesn't always = strength though. Look at Brawn in g1.

good point about Brawn-and although i dont think anyone actually has a physical gun, Decepticon weapons do seem to be a bit darker

    Megatron-Fusion Cannon
    Starscream-Forearm Blaster/Null Rays
Blitzwing-Tank Cannons, shooting lasers and freeze rays
Blackarachnia-those fang things for the Venom
Lugnut-well, he has the 50,000 missile from back attack, and his hands are bombs along with "The Punch" and his toy has a mace thing
Lockdown-Hook and Chainsaw, EMP blaster as well (maybe)
Oilslick-funky chain weapon shown in toy
Soundwave-shoulder cannon at one point, no real weapons

seem to be darker weapons than those used by Autobots

You're close. Seems to me the Autobots haven't fought for a long time, so most weapons like guns would have been fazed out of their society. Decepticons, obviously, wouldn't have this problem. This left the Autobots with mostly tools, which after so long were modified into more combat-compatible weapons, but still tools at their root.

Or maybe they figured guns are a little 'primitive'? Why have a weapon which you have to twitch a finger to fire, when you can something like Starscream's null rays which fire on thought.

i do like Juliant's idea on the weapons-why carry a gun when you can have one built in?

    Melee weapons=Better fight scenes.
When you have guns you end up with everybody standing behind rocks and missing all the time.

The most memorable fight scenes, in my opinion, from G1 were pretty fire arm-less.

    edit: also on topic,
Ultra Magnus will probably be pretty powerfully, but a bit rusty.
Unless he's been training a lot it's probably been a couple thousand(million?) years since he's scene combat.

    lol brings back memories.

Take away the rocks then. We need more projectiles, basically. Happened in Lost & Found and it turned out to be the best episode so far. We need more of those action scenes, like Gundam too. Hey, maybe we'll have a space fight in the future of TFA.

Where did you get your info, hmm? Because everything you've said so far is wrong. "Liberal pansies" didn't have anything to do with the melee weapons over guns discision. And TF:A is hardly ruined, it's the best T.V. series since BW. (Ironically the only good one since BW, too.)

No they are not. They are awesome. Guns suck and take away the fun, axes and hammers are more brutal. Nothing says violent like a good ol' fashion head smashing and limb chopping. TF guns do squat except leave little smoked scorch marks that don't even scratch paint.

At least until the inevitable report that some kid somewhere has bludgeoned his friend to death with a hammer or a hatchet or something after watching Tranformers. ;)

I understand the sentiment is to give kids less exposure to guns and violence, but I don't think it's really rooted in reality. I grew up with guns on cartoons and TV everywhere. StarWars, army men, cap guns, cowboys, squirt guns, etc... I LOVEd the guns. I also have no desire to really actually shoot anything, and whole idea of real guns scares the hell out of me. All my friends that I grew up with basically had the same upbringing with the Romance of Guns... and not a sociopath in the batch (that I know of).

It used to be that they wanted to cut down on realistic guns in cartoons... NOW it seems like even laser pistols are too close to the real thing. I mean, c'mon!

Ultimately, I don't think cartoons with guns ARE what causes gun death. Letting guns fall into the hands of stupid/disturbed kids is what results in shooting deaths.

That's an in-continuity reason that I pretty much guarantee has little to NOTHING to do with the real reason we don't see many guns in TFA, especially with the Autobots. :)

True... but they're still guns. Heh... and it's the Autobots who get the truly primitive weapons. Axes, hammers, shields, nunchuks...? :)

On the topic of Magnus... anybody question yet why Magnus and Ratchet look like a couple of old coots, but Megatron and Lockdown and the rest of the Decepticons, who presumably have been around just as long, look just fine? :)

Maybe they were in stasis lock for a period of their exile?
And lBackarachnia can't be counted among them because she's probably around the same age as Optimus.

Nah, I was just making shit up. It would be cool. Maybe since this show actaully has a real plot for a change, we'll get an exposition episode like that.

Rocket-powered, laser-edged axe, force-shield generating shield, and probably super-teched shurikens like the Predator's. Haven't seen Magnus's hammer or Jazz's nunchuku yet, but they're pretty advanced alright :D

Decepticons have cybertronium botox or something.

Come on man, don't tell me you are that niave to think that the decision to not use many guns wasn't effected by guns and violence on tv which is thought of as the liberal point of view so I was poking fun at them. They have purposely stayed away from handguns. Less stuff to lose in the figures though looking on the bright side :)

What do mean get my info? I was making an observation lol.

I like melee weapons just as much as the next person but Autobots with lets see a hammer, an axe, throwing stars, nunchuks and Bumblebee running up and stinging folks?? An advanced society would not be running around like that.

Nothing wrong with Optimus pulling out a gun or a sword like in the movie to give some options for distance fighting and for close combat. THAT to me is cool.

great show, love it but I personally think more guns would be cool.

    1. Please, do not call me names. 2. I am not naive, it just seems that with the movie and universe and all the other TF brands currently out, eliminating guns in just one series for that purpose seems a little off. To me, the main purpose seems to be for the fighting scenes. Watch robots duke it out face to face is more fun than watching a boring gun fight. Though I will not argue that the subject of gun violence in cartoons at the absolute least came up in conversation during the decision.

Well, it wasn't a very informed one.;) :lol

Who said they were advanced? They're just alien robots. Besides, how do you know just howe their advanced society works? Maybe they way their wars are fought do revolve around melee weapons. Besides, it's already been established that the main Autobot team's eapons are in fact repair tools designed for their job. (except Prowl, who's a ninja so giving him a gun anyway would be lame) We've also seen BB use his stingers at long range several times.

IMO, melee weapons are an all too welcome change from the same-old same-old of lame gun fights that seem to be the hallmark of TF animation. They can bring guns back when TFA is over.
