How old are Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Lockdown, etc? Also, how long have they been fighting their war? Based on AOE, it seems that Optimus is millions of years old!

Yes, they're probably near or older than a million years.

RotF implies they are probably a few thousand years old.

Drift's infographic said he was 14,000 years old.

In movieverse, most of their ages are in the thousands, not millions.

My mistake; I assumed that OP was created soon after the Dinobots, which was millions of years ago.

AoE did nothing but cloud this issue IMO. I always gathered that since the Primes battled on earth around 17,000BC, that would mean that bots like Prime and Megatron could only be a few thousand years old at most, since the Fallen had already been forgotten and Prime only got the whole back history through the matrix.

AoE makes him seem much much older with all the dinobot/knight terribleness.

Damn. Kruger really messed up the continuity of this movieverse. It needs to be rebooted.

I blame RoTF pigeon holing them into the 17,000 b.c.e. date.

That's just not true. Lockdown was clearly talking about Optimus's ancestors, not Optimus himself.

Like several have said already, their ages are in the scales of thousands of years. I've been doing a lot of work with the timeline, and that's definitely what makes the most sense.

There's really nothing wrong with it not being millions of years. Their lifespans are still longer than the entirety of our modern civilization.

Most of them are 12,000 years plus. If we go by Jetfire's line that the party of the Primes being their earliest ancestors harvesting stars they could be millions of years old.

The Dinobots it seems may have been direct creations of the Creators.

So my guess is that early Primes, Seekers and Knights representing the first generation being millions of old. The Autobots and later generation Decepticons being like Maximals and Predacons a young race that takes the place of their ancestors.

I think while the Fallen had taken the Seekers forming the first Decepticons, Sentinel Prime had the Knights becoming the first Autobots. (Strafe seems to have an Autobot symbol on his wing) Plus Optimus's familiarity of the Knight Terminus and Hound always wanting a fly an arm ship indicates it was part of the Autobot fleet.

It could that Optimus isn't a young Prime. Pulling something like TF Prime where he was part of the Thirteen that periodically gets reborn time and again.
Oddly if we do a count of the 7 Primes, 4 Dinobots, Sentinel Prime and Optimus Prime they are 13 in total.

How exactly did he mess it up? The Dinobots' age was never established, only that they were legendary warriors. They were visibly older than the rest, and could have been 65 million years old or close to it, if the creators made them after harvesting Earth.

The age of the Knights was never established either, only that Prime used to be one of them.

None of this conflicts with anything. All the movie did was establish that the creators had been doing this far longer than anyone was aware, and that the Allspark was not the only source of life for Transformers. The original Primes were still the original Primes. The Dinobots might have come before them but they're not Primes.

There's no continuity fuck up there. Not knowing all the answers does not a continuity error make.

Optimus is less than 17,000 years old. He's a young Prime, he was established as being mentored by Sentinel. He doesn't look like the original Primes, who are barely cybertronian in appearance at all and may not have BEEN cybertronian. Optimus was a Knight, yes. Sentinel was likely too. The Dinobots seem to have been as well....maybe even the original ones. We don't know how old the Knight program is.

Tens of thousands of years it seems. The ages of the Primes are a little more ambiguous, but I see no reason for them to not be millions of years old.

Yeah, the original Primes could be old as fuck. We have no idea when the creators started all this.

It's entirely possible that the original Primes aren't even the same species as the rest of the Transformers as well. They certainly didn't look like it.

Optimus being made part of the Knight rank could have been what saved him from the Fallen's purge.

Same with Sentinel Prime as he went on an expedition.

It could be they were on the same ship.

Also possible that neither of them were alive yet. The Fallen's attempted use of the Sun Harvester on earth 17,000 years ago marked the beginning of the civil war. Sentinel could have been born after. There were two civil wars....Megatron started the second one thousands of years later when he stumbled upon The Fallen. I would assume the time between those wars was relatively peaceful.
