I've got a collection of 80-90 Transformers, which is relatively modest, but it can still be a pain to clean every single one when they get dirty. It's not just a matter of wiping off the dust, it's rearranging everything back into place once you're done. This is why I prize glass cabinets. Most of my figures never need to be cleaned, and the ones on top of the cabinet take about 30-40 minutes to go over with a toothbrush and set back, which I do roughly every month. Has your collection doomed you to long hours of laborious cleaning?
To answer the last question... yes.. It normally takes me about a week. I have 310 Transformers so far, stretched across 2 book shelves and a Hutch. Each case has 5 shelves, each shelf takes about 30-40 minutes between taking them down, brushing them off, and then putting them back. I use a make up brush that I stole from my daughter who didn't use that particular brush. Once all figures are down and brushed off, I clean the shelf with a wet cloth. After this, I have to rearrange them all again. I'll normally do 1 or 2 shelves a night when I'm doing them so about a week or so every couple of months. Have a couple of drinks in the process and i'm good.
I clean my collection once a week. It can take upwards of an hour sometimes an hour and a half. Items behind my closet doors do not end up being cleaned. It would require me having to move around a number of things. The blinds stay closed all day. So for the most part it does not appear terribly dusty. Everything in my house winds up dusty again after all of five minutes. At this rate maintaining everything feels like an uphill battle.
I don't really have too much issues cleaning only because I usually don't have more then 20-30 figures out at any time. Most are either loose in a rubbermaid or in their original boxes. So usually it's about an hour or so with one of those swiffer dust cloths. YAY FOR LIMITED SPACE!
my figures don't usually get dusty but if i see one that is, i'll just take it down and brush it off. what's weird is that my shelves attract more pet hair than my figures so i usually end up wiping my shelves more than my figures
It takes me a week, maybe two weeks to really clean them properly. I have somewhere over 700, still a small number if you think about many Transformers there are. I take the time to really clean them with toothbrushes, Q-tips, air cans, etc. I usually use the opportunity to move them around as well to give my room a different feel to it.
my toyroom is away from people and pets 99% of the time, most are behind glass now too, i've been in this house eight months, i've cleaned the open shelves once, and there is no dust on them now. when i do clean them, it's a whole day affair usually, mostly thanks to just having to windex the glass and clean the few shelves that are open
Since I don't have a whole ton of figures it doesn't take too long. I don't clean them too often though but they do get dusty.
Why doesn't anyone want to play with their toys? Thats how i dust mine. You should enjoy your collection, not treat it like another house chore. Transfomer them once or twice and return your cleaning products back to the bathroom.
i know this sounds sexist! but do ppl not get their wives, gfs &/or mums to clean them!.............well..............the cabinets anyway
Quit buying crap for a few mths and buy case(s) with doors, glass or otherwise. Seriously...............I see people with one shelf covered in a complete layer of dust with figures worth as much as my whole collection. Case with doors = problem almost solved except for really dusty environments and long long periods of time. I hated forking over $$$$ to do my new room the right way, but as I organize, arrange and sort it out, whatever is dirty/dusty is not once it goes in and I havent had to do anything other than wipe off the odd shelf or two.
I don't. My collection is a windowless room with very, very rare exposure to my dog and cats. Plus there's an AC vent directly above the shelves, so it's self-dusting . Transforming em a couple of times usually gets the dust off.
A couple hours just for a shelf, which is why I rotate- just dusting the Seasons 1&2 shelf this month, Season 3 next month, then the computer desk the month after.
You're right, that does sound sexist. It takes me 10-15 minutes at the moment, but then again I have very little out on display.
