Let's be honest here about Galvatron. He seems like a really... interesting character, as we don't know what kind of role he'll have at this point, being human made, but labeled as a Decepticon (and having a "breakout" toyset) with a very vague bio, which could possibly point to him being connected to Megatron still.

However, he is being voiced by Frank Welker. Aside from Soundwave, Frank Welker, as great as he is, seems to just provide "noises" in the movies, I mean, take a look at Shockwave. He was also Devastator, and Grindor. With this in mind, what are the chances that he'll really give Galvatron a role like Soundwave, or if it'll just be like Shockwave and the others. And with Lockdown being the big bad, is it possible that Galvatron's role is a lot more smaller than we even currently think at the moment? Or is Lockdown going to be another bait and switch, like with Shockwave and Sentinel?

 

TV spots and trailers are showing Lockdown as the main villain. Here is the thing we've been bait switched before with Shockwave, turns out the real villain was Sentinel Prime who we were expecting as a benevolent mentor to Optimus.

We don't know until the movie comes out.

 

He might have a role like Shockwave.

I think his role is going to be more significant than we think. Disregarding the fact he's man-made, everything about him is in the dark.

 

So much mystery for Galvatron

 

That's certainly true, and Stinger has been in the dark a lot as well. But I really hope this isn't just a case of bait and switch. I'm just torn between if they're in the dark because of spoiling roles, or if they're in the dark because they have very little roles.

 

The dude only had 3 shots out of all the trailers so far. This won't end well.

 

I'm surprised that people are hesitant about Frank Welker doing the voice. After all he did the original Megatron and then the Galvatron voice after the movie in G1. This guy knows his stuff. I feel like we finally have the voice cast we should have from the get go.

I really think Galvatron will turn out to be the main bad guy in this film and a herald for things to come.

 

It's nothing bad about Frank Welker, he certainly knows his stuff, and is awesome at it. But so far, aside from Soundwave, he's just had less than minor roles in the film, so I feel at this moment it's possible that he's just playing another minor character.

 

Michael Bay must respect Frank Welker.

 

To bad he doesn't respect the pimp purple coloring of the original Galvatron.  

 

More and more I see, I am starting to wonder if Galvatron is more of an ancient character who might be older then we think.

I think he will be easily brushed aside in the film then return to cause chaos. The more I think about it, the more I think he will be in the second as the main villain.

So I think his role is going to be a meaty one and the Welker doing the voice is fine with me. I would actually prefer a voice closer to the original Megatron then his G1 take on Galvatron.

 

You know what I think, does anyone remember how the LEDs on the Freightliner change colors? What if when Megatron's conscious poses Galvatron's body, all of the blue LEDs turn purple. It'd be a great little nod to the original Galvatron.

It's tough to say since trailers and even toys have failed to give us any sure fire way to calculate how important a Decepticon will be, if they will accomplish much, or how much dialog they will get in any given film. It's not like Decepticons haven't been given parts in the trailers and toy releases only to go "that's it" when it comes to the actual film.

Then the other big question on if they can turn things around so it doesn't seem like the Decepticons are just too easy to beat. Some films understand the importance of the villain but it kind of feels like the live action Transformers never got how you get the most out of a film villain. So have things changed or will nothing have even a shot at the combined power of Autobots and humans? For three films it's been the Decepticons can only win if they get the magical McGuffin so could we get the Decepticons have a real chance at winning without an all powerful artifact?

Well, his design sucks, and it looks like Prime pretty easily schools the shit out of him while he's under human control.

So, I hope he dies and the humans are like oh shit what do we do now. I'm sick of Movie Megatron, he sucks.

Lockdown, on the other hand, seems cool thus far, and I hope we get more characters like him. Bludgeon, Axer, Sideways, etc.
