How far is to far, we are all fans of the toys, comics, shows, movies, but how many of us take it to far. I myself have been collecting for 10 years though many horrible and sad things collecting has seen me though, the trill of the hunt, the joy of opening a new toy. But all of this does not effect just me, it effects the ones around me, from haveing less money to spend with friends and family, to being something people get sick of, what im getting at is i want to know how has collecting effected you and more importantly people around you. Im hopeing i can get some idea where to go next with my collecting as a reach a point where space and what characters ive always wanted become very limited So i am asking what would you all do next
Well if your wife slaps you with divorce papers cause your collection out grew her walk in closet , then I think you went to far....
well i have no idea i said to myself once i completed usa g1 cast characters i will stick with mp only, but what would you people do?
get more seekers or go star wars but in all seriousness, i see myself getting 1-2 MIB/MOC G1 figures a year. and playing legos with my kids. -
My nephew finds it pathetic how I collect Transformers & Marvel Legends, telling me I should get a life. Right now the only thing Transformers I focus on is my fan fiction and the occasional pick up of a random Titans Return figure I find for a good deal on Amazon plus I will always go see a Bayformer film. I wish I didn't move farther and farther away from the first thing that helped me coupe with belonging but distribution and the lack of media has turned me farther and farther away. But thanks to me focusing less and less on Transformers has allowed me to focus heavily on moving forward in my life, finding a more stable job, and know where I am going. If I ever get depressed though I always turn to my other collection, Marvel Legends which is much easier to find what I want and collect. Plus watching RWBY, god I love that show.
If your collecting habit turns into an obsession, step away. If your collecting habit is affecting the people around you, step away. Try prioritizing the things you want most or the things that would be harder to get later.
I've only been collecting for 3 years, but have streamlined my collecting to specific lines. I literally just packed most of my movie line collection to put into my storage. I came into collecting just as the AOE toys were being announced, and got caught up in that frenzy. That led to hunting down toys from the other three movies. Since Transformers Animated was airing at the time, of course I had to collect those. Then came Transformers Prime, as well as discovering the world of Shattered Glass. All of that in addition to Masterpiece, and yea, it got expensive. Last year, I decided to stick to very specific lines with Masterpiece being my main line. Spending since, has not been out of control. I'm now very picky about which items I buy.
Yeah, when collecting starts running your life, it's time to step back and reevaluate things a bit. Above all else, this should be fun. As soon as it stops being fun, what's the point in continuing?
How much is too much.. ever seen Trekkies? My buying toys has no real affect on those around me (it's not dope or booze you know, and I never busted open someones piggy bank to buy a mini-con) and I don't hassle others over their purchases. I don't think being a toy collector is a negative thing. it's fun and enjoyable. I get a little yappy feedback or at least a crooked look every time I get a new bike, but they take up alotta space and can be costly. At the end of the day though, what i do with my meager pittance is of my concern. If there's food to eat, bills paid and money saved what's really the harm? None! As far as where to go next, enjoy that complete G1 collection. Set up all the micromaster bases, combine your combiners and don't forget to mix & match.. Transform Metroplex, Trypticon & Fort Max etc.
nope never seen that i might look it up. This is helpfull i count 22 characters missing from my collection and lately its all i can think about is the end of the main line road, i have decided that all tv shows after prime is going to be for my son to have all those characters are his unless they bring out a toy for one of the 13 lol, thinking about it maybe i should focus on geting better shelfing next instead of the ones i have there good each shelf can hold 100kg but they dont protect against dust. it wasnt this difficult when finishing dragon ball z card collecting because i had them all except some exclusives lol, but i had already moved onto the next collecting thing, the problem is i dont want to move onto another collecting thing, ive also been a collector sense i was 5, i dont want to end up like one of those people who have there whole house full of stuff, okay now im just rambling lol, i have 1 room with my toys, computer,ps4, lazy boy lol
For me, I knew I was taking collecting too far when I had neither the time, money or inclination for anything else. This is supposed to be a hobby and it's supposed to be fun. When toy robots get in the way of life you know you are doing it wrong.
Anything can become an addiction, but as far as addictions go, Transformers collecting is a pretty innocuous one. I used to be a smoker, and I can tell you, that's a shitty, expensive addiction. Sure, Transformers can get expensive and if you take it too far you're going to have...a lot of Transformers. Just don't go into debt to get them and if its legitimately messing with your life, stop buying them, put some up for sale, or put them in storage. I'm probably on the poorer end of the collecting spectrum, but I still manage to afford spending about $100-200 on transformers a year without it hurting me in any way. The great thing about transformers collecting is that if you stop, you don't get the shakes!
He's not kidding folks! I've seen photographic evidence! A little harsh considering his profile phrase?
I didn't even notice him being dyslexic. But I do make trilling noises when I hunt. A bit like a Tribble from Star Trek. It puts toys at ease which makes them easier to capture.
Keep it all in one room. Well, do take some out here and there so the wife notices the space issues so she'll buy you more detolfs. More money for bots less spending on the display cases. It's also suppose to be a hobby.
