In Five Faces of Darkness, one of the quints says to Blitzwing "We've met somewhere before. I know you" to which Blitzwing replies "If only I could remember". (possibly not word for word but that's the general idea).

Is there anything out there in the G1 universe that would explain this? There's no explanation in the G1 cartoon, but wondering if there's something in the comics or something that might give some backstory to that encounter in FFOD.

The Quints created the Transformers....so he may have had a hand in making him?

Yeah, the quints were basically being retconned in by the writers at the time. Just like the matrix of leadership, considering we never saw or heard of the matrix or quints before the movie. In the episodes after the movie, suddenly everyone remembers the quints and knows about the matrix of leadership.

Ya gotta admit, he aged better than Alpha Trion. Or maybe he could just afford a razor.

Blitz must have had one hell of a drunken bender at that Quintesson-hosted skins party oh-so-long-ago.

It just indicates that he's old enough to have either been a slave and taken part in the slave rebellion, or that he was created soon after, before the Quints were forgotten. We don't see if the 'miliary hardware' aged the same as the 'consumer goods'. Chances are they didn't, being made of much tougher materials that would take a longer time to deteriorate. Give him a million years more and he might start to look like Kup. ;)

    It's just sort of odd.

When Blitzwing was reissued, he was redecoed for eHobby as Overcharge, a mass produced Quintesson robot created using technology gleaned from the Decepticons. The character was conceived by Japanese super-fan Hirofumi Ichikawa, who *always* makes loads of often-obscure references to elements of the G1 cartoon when he produces official fiction for Takara; as such, I really can't believe that this *wasn't* intended to refer to Blitzwing's nebulous connection to the Quintessons in some way. I reckon the implication is that the Quintessons abducted Blitzwing and used him as the template for their Overcharges then brain-wiped him later, or something like that. Hence his only-vague recollection of the Quints in the episode itself.

You must admit, it certainly adds to Blitzwing's mystique. I wish my G1 toy wasn't in four separate bits.

That's one of the reasons the Marvel comics ruled as the (Creation) Matrix had already been around a while in print. Admittedly how it went from a program in Prime's head to the ball with handles of the movie was a bit iffy, but it did give us the excellent Matrix Quest story, so I shall let it off. :)
As for Quintessions, I wish they stayed as movie only and were never crowbarred into Transformers history, especially as their creators.

Alpha Trion rocks the Fu Manchu!

    Good day to you, sir!

It's way cooler than the 70s pornstache he had in his youth.

But yeah, as the Quints were supposedly the creators of the TFs in the cartoon, Blitzwing was a character the writers seemed to like making distinct in certain ways. In fact, the writers definitely seemed to like adding additional elements to the triple-changers in general. Of course, being relatively rare (6 total in the cartoon), they may have been directly engineered by the Quints as "the next evolution" of TFs.

i wonder if this is the same thing Fallen was talking about Blitz, in WWI?

i would hazard a guess, that Blitz was one of the first Triple changers

The only way Blitzwing could have know the Quints is if he were older than Kup. Seeing as NO ONE is older than Kup, we must deduce that he met them through other means during his existence. Maybe he ran into them during season one or the part of season two before he showed up on earth. That or Season Three is really full of plot holes like that. I lean toward the second. It was a shame the phased out Blitzwing for Octane though, the Octane stories would have made more sense with Blitzwing.
