Hey guys, so I'm having trouble deciding whether or not I want to shell out the cash for an on-sale Fortress Maximus. To the people who own him, what do you think should be the deciding factors of whether or not I should pick him up? To get the obvious one out of the way: I can afford him, but it may push back me buying stuff like MP Cheetor. I'll take any advice cause I'm really struggling to decide here.
While I don't personally own the toy (but actually owning the G1 Encore), I think this is the first thing I should ask, do you have any other city-formers? If you've got Metroplex or a G1 Fort Max, I'd say you should probably skip it. I'd also recommend considering if you think you'd regret buying it. If you don't think you will, then go for it; it looks like a good toy. But if you think you will, I'd avoid it, as there's no point in owning a toy you can't enjoy owning.
I'm a little worried about regretting it but I'm somehow even moreso worried about regretting NOT buying it. I don't have any more cityformers and this might be my best opportunity to get one.
Space is a big issue. With great power comes great responsibility. Ensure you have the room, otherwise it'll stick out like a sore thumb. The best feature is it's interactivity with other toys, which is wasted if you're keeping it aside in a dark corner away from your collection. Cerebros goes great with the other TR deluxe figures and is highly posable. As you don't have Metroplex already, you don't need to worry about the similarity between the two, which is readily recognisable. Fort max is a great big prominent icon of your collecting habits, there is nothing subtle about it, so ensure you're OK with that too.
As for space, that is a concern. I figure the only place he could go is hanging out somewhere in my room (but casually, not like stuffed in a corner) or on the shelves which I have my megazords on. What do you mean by "collecting habits"?
I'd say if you're asking, then the answer is no. If you really wanted it, you wouldn't be asking strangers on a forum to justify the purchase for you; you'd have already bought it because nothing was going to stop you from getting something you wanted when you have the means and opportunity to do so.
Hell, if you can find it at $75 or less, I would jump on it. I don't think you would take a huge hit in a year or so if you regret buying it and decide to sell. It is bound to dry up at some point. I think it is a pretty decent figure and a nice anchor for the collection. How many 2ft tall transformers are we really going to get, maybe another 5-6 tops? I paid just about $130 for my first and couldn't pass up a second for $60 on HTS. My only regret now is that I didn't buy a second Metroplex when costco had them (and I even picked up two of those for friends).
Initially, I told myself I wouldn't get it. It's expensive, it's large, and I already have Metroplex to satisfy my need for a large base. HOWEVER: I really like the look of Cerebros, I could keep Metroplex displayed in the (super sweet) SDCC box, and I found a great deal on Fort Max, so I pulled the trigger on him. The problem is, now that I have him in-hand, I find that I much prefer Metroplex's base-mode, so now I'm back to square one with how I want to display both Titans. As far as money goes, Fort Max and MP Cheetor are the same price, so they cancel each other out in that regard. Which figure would you feel that you're getting the most for your money? Do you already own Metroplex? Do you have the G1 Fort Max? Any childhood memories with the figure/character?
If you can find it on sale I'd huno for it. Regardless of the sales now, 4 years down the line it will go for $300. Ao get it now, and if you don't like it sell it when the prices inflates later. That said, I love Metroplex but I don't like Fort Max, at least not the retail version. I'm getting the SDCC version, though the retail plus Reporlabels is a sexy thing too.
I have metroplex and fortmax i dont regreat eather, buy him sticker him up plop him in base mode use cerobrous as a deluxe, then when you want to play with make him fortmax, well thats my space issue solver
The things that sold me on max were as follows: - The size, this is quite an event and if you've never owned the vintage figure or Gen Metroplex, it's a wonderful thing to experience - Cerebros, the Hasbro retail release was the first time I could get a cartoon G1 accurate Cerebros and it's actually a fantastic figure all on its own. Its Emissary headmaster is also a key thing I wanted, I hate missing out on any Titan master mould because... - Playability. Max makes a fantastic base and interactive platform for all the other Titans return figures I have and planned to buy. - He's also very good looking IMO, especially if you can source a sword for him, he has a gorgeous headsculpt for the big robot mode. All the best Maz
I bought him mainly for displaying my season 3 and 4 bots on the spaceship or my personal fanmade citymode, but i was i was surprised how fun and versatile the robotmode is. Especially since you got three bots for the price of one. Todlers love him If you can get him on discount and you can spare the money and you havent got another citybot and you're thinking of buying him at all i'd say get him
If you're a legends class collector, he's totally cool as a base (and can interact w/leaders in base mode, too). Likewise if you have a ton of Titanmasters. He's also significantly more affordable now than Metroplex, so if you want a base of some kind, I'd get him now. As a toy he's decent - much like the original, his battle station mode is pretty boring. Lack of a third mode (city) is unfortunate. He is, however, a sturdy, giant toy that will look imposing on a shelf.
To be fair, while he doesn't have the main official city mode of the G1, he does have the "impenetrable fortress" mode shown in the original G1 pack in catalog.
I regretted selling my TR Fort Max the first time and was so happy to get him for such a low price. He is a great figure. he is the center piece of my collection as he has his own shelf haha. If you got the space you will be fine.
If you aren't sure, then you probably don't want him. Put that money towards something you know you want.
I swore I wasn't going to buy him. I still have my childhood Fortress Maximus. I also have Infinitor which was my CHUG Fort Max. I told myself I didn't need another 2 feet tall toy. Then I caved when Entertainment Earth had him for $90 shipped. I don't regret it one bit. Well, other than the fact that they dropped the price even lower. But hey, $90 is reasonable. I'm glad I have it in my collection. Entertainment Earth has him for $75 shipped. That's half of the standard store price shipped to your front door. You can't go wrong with that price. At $75, if you decide you don't like it, you could easily resell it in a few years for more than you paid. Transformers Generations Titans Return Fortress Maximus: Entertainment Earth
