How did you get into Transformers in the first place?

I was just wondering (and not really looking for any other threads- but wanted to know) How did everyone else get into Transformers? Story time!

    - When i was 4 years old (1994), I got really sick for about a week with Strep Throat. One night, while i was out of school because of the sickness, my parents brought me downstairs way past my bedtime because I couldn't stop coughing (or something, i really don't remember) enough to go to sleep. So one of them ran out to the 24-hour drug store to get some medicine while the other stayed with me. I was on the sofa, watching television, when through the haze of my mind i saw a cartoon come on. All i remember for years about the cartoon was a blur, red and white robot with a black gun/cannon standing victorious with a pink female robot standing beside him in a half hug on a cliff. Then I started watching Beast Wars (mostly because I thought they were animals) when it came on in the mornings before school. While staying with the rest of the series on various networks (Armada, part of Energon and Cybertron) i kept somewhat in touch with Transformers, but never got to see the real G1. (hence... what also made me the only tomboy in my school for... about 6 years total)

Then only recently (about 3 years ago) I found Beast Wars box set on a shelf in Best Buy. I grabbed it and checked out. When i got home, I read the back and it perked my interests in what this 'Original Series' they mentioned was. So i went online and sure enough, when i saw Optimus Prime- i realized it was the series I saw when i was a kid! It was so weird! So i did a little more research and found that all the series i liked as a kid (grades 2-11 at least) were majority wise Transformers! I couldn't believe it! Now i'm just waiting for the Matrix of Leadership box set so i can finally see all the episodes in restored glory.-

Well that's my story. I wanna hear yours!!! Don't be shy! Tell us what led you to this fantastic world!

My biggest brother had G1 Brawl and Grimlock when I was small - like 3 or 4 years old. I had absolutely no idea that they were from a cartoon, and I didn't even know their names. Then years went by, and Beast Wars came to TV, and I watched tons of it - again, not knowing it was related to Transformers. To me it was just a weird CG cartoon about animals that turned into robots. By this point, I was a fan. Then my fandom died away, and Beast Wars remained little more than a cool memory. Some time later I heard about some cartoon called "Transformers", and I wasn't really interested, and didn't make any connection between it and Beast Wars. I didn't even know wtf Transformers was. Then one day in 2006, I read about a live-action Transformers movie being made. The most I knew at this point was that Transformers were giant robots who transformed from vehicles. I learned the names Optimus, Megatron, and Starscream. I thought they were piloted like Gundams; but then I did some internet research and learned that they were sentient aliens from some technological planet called Cybertron. And then I learned that Beast Wars was part of the story, and my brain did a back flip. Suffice it to say, I became a conscious Tformer fan by doing online research. By the time the buzz for the live-action movie was in full throttle, I was in for the long haul *tee hee!*.

Back before the 2007 movie came out, I saw the trailer in theaters. My mom, who was a fan of the original cartoon, sort of gasped and told me that she loved Transformers as a kid. Me, being a spineless coward at the time, didn't want to see it because the shadowy silhouette crushing the Rover and the 'This was our only warning' (or whatever) text freaked me out.

By the time it actually went into theaters, I had toughened considerably and drooled over the epicness and general awesome of the movie. Someone bought it for me on DVD and I rewatched it plenty of times.

Sometime in January this year, I uncovered the DVD, watched it once more, and decided to look up this cartoon that my mom had loved so much when she was younger. I found that there were several different continuities and fandoms. The most recent one, Animated, was still running.

I'd seen bits and pieces of the cartoon and strongly disliked the design. The cartoon didn't hold my interest until I really started watching it. In February, I joined TFW and bought the figures of my two favorite Ani-bots; Jetfire and Jetstorm.

    And here I am. ^^

    I was born in '87, so I wasn't even coherent until 1989 or 1990.

I'm 21, and I remember watching some old G1 re-runs, I never paid to much attention to it, mainly because it was season 3 and I hated wheelie to death. Then G2 came, and I loved the toys, but I still wasn't much of a fan. It all came down when I saw beast wars, amazing show, the cgi had me amazed, the story, characters it was all beatifully done and it tied me to transformers for the rest of my life.

Like an earlier poster said,I was a kid in the 80s.

For the posters who didn't know BW was part of Transformers,it's been awhile since I saw the show but isn't it called "Beast Wars:Transformers"? I think it said "Transformers" on the toy packaging, too.

I think you're right, but I'm not sure if the "Transformers" subtext showed up on the TV show itself. If it was on the packaging I didn't pay much attention to it.

I still collect GI Joe, but not in the same quantities as Tformers. I only buy 1 or 2 GI Joes every 2 months.

I was born in '89, and I really have no idea how it got started. I think my dad had rented some G1 episodes for me in 1992 or 93, and so began that. I had a bunch of G2 toys (since G1 was unfortunately gone by that time), most of which are broken (Swindle survived, though!). Naturally, I got into Beast Wars after that. I stopped watching the shows after Beast Machines (which I didn't watch much of, either), but collected the toys until Armada. My girlfriend and I started collecting again because of Animated (which I adore!) and now I'm probably more in love with them than I was as a kid, haha.

I got into it right when Armada started... then followed about halfway through Energon, then picked up again at the beginning of Cybertron, then got lost in Star Wars but still watched the ending of Cybertron, then became obsessed with the film, then ignored Animated, now am obsessed with ROTF and wishing that I had still been into TFs during the Classics line.

Actually, the one thing which got me back into TF collecting was... finding a Universe Classic Starscream in Target. Then I just rolled with it.
