    If it had to be done the scanning of animatronic dinosaurs makes the most sense. Have the protoforms crash into a museum, the instructional display turns on and says that the T-Rex was the king of the dinosaurs.

    Either the Dinobots should just not be included, personalities could be included in non-Dinobot bodies, or they just scan animatronic dinos thinking that's the dominant/blending in form.

    It doesn't need to be some ridiculously huge, complex explanation.

    So that wouldn't be Grimlock in The War Within comics leading the Lightening Strike Coalition and not turning into a T-Rex, then? Dinobots or Dynobots?

    This would help explain why they are so savage and vicious. The Allspark creations were, remember, essentially animals. These could be a more "refined" version created from animatronic dinosaurs.

    Simple. Little screen-time needed. Into their personalities as the movie progresses.

    Just have them and don't explain anything. Loads of movies do loads of things and never bother to explain them.
