In response to the question posed at the start of this thread, TFs still would have been big, even without the films. In fact, I don't think the movies have made that big a difference in the popularity of the franchise (i.e. the film-hype hasn't helped TFs beat Star Wars as the #1 boys toy license for the past 3 years). Even still, TFs have always been fairly popular toys regardless. If there were no Bay-films, then Hasbro would have bank-rolled some new series in place of the films to keep interest going or promote some new line etc. As they've done from the beginning. It's clear that the films have had a very significant impact on people here, myself included (got me into the Classics and Alternators lines), but again, strictly in terms of the popularity of the franchise, they've kept the torch going and that's about it.
