For each individual bots. I know that some have artwork to go by, but I sometimes see customs that doesn't really have an SG comic point of reference.

Does anyone know? Is it simply reversing or inverting the colors?

It's a mix of several choices. The choices are made with dolphins and balls.

    1) Inverting colors (i.e. Optimus Prime is Decepticon Purple instead of Autobot Red)
    2) Swapping colors (i.e. Drift's white/red to red/white)
    3) Using colors of a rival (SG Cyclonus from Hot Rod)
    4) Using colors of an homage (SG Wheeljack from Slicer from Actionmaster, SG Grimlock in Trypticon colors)
    5) Black is evil (SG Hot Rod, SG Blurr)
    6) Convenience (SG Soundwave for ML Soundwave)
    7) No change (SG Jazz, SG Megatron, SG Galvatron)

SG Ravage is both swapping (black-to-white) and homageing (G1 Glit).
SG Drift is swapping colors (the red and white) and homageing but it's Deadpool.

I can remember more of the toys then comics. . .

Like videriant said, it's not consistent. I actually like that about it, it gives some freedom. Some seem to use Diaclone-esque colors (Ironhide, maybe).

Even though it doesn't seem like it was deliberate, I feel like SG Hound's color scheme combined with his alt mode pretty well evokes the Cobra Stinger. Which sort of works given the TF/Joe connection.

So is it based on the customizer then, when they do SG that does not exist in comics? For example, doing like... SG Superion, or something, where there is no back story (that SG Computron DO look sexy though), how would one go about determinding colors, for example?

Well, TFWiki has a list of the established SG Characters right here:

    Shattered Glass Characters

But yeah, I'd say if your desired custom character isn't on that list (which it looks like Superion isn't) just use your imagination and be clever about it. The obvious choice would be Superion in Stunticon colors, but I'm sure you could find some other creative angle to go, too. Maybe other releases of the characters or molds. Since the Autobot "Seekers" didn't really use the 'Con Seeker color schemes, those are still open. You could paint them all up in 'Con Seeker colors or something. Or, heck, just come up with something you feel looks cool and fits the character.

Funpub owns the Shattered Glass-iverse. The customizer can do whatever they want with the understanding that the club can put that same character into the comics at any point and the club's colors would be official which may end up causing a discrepancy with any already made custom.

i like the idea for shattered glass i just think that there can be a bit too much emphasise on evil autobots and heroic decepticons but colour has had a big effect on some of the characters

Sometimes they homage things you wouldn't think of like SG Megatron having the original Megatron helmet design or SG Rodimus's stache which is based on Evil Spock.

The only thing that's remotely consistent amongs SG versions is that Heroic Decepticons have Blue eyes, and Evil Autobots red.

As others have stated... color schemes vary greatly. They've no pattern other than trying to reference *something* from the long history of Transformers.

If you want to make a SG version of a character... think rivals, references, repaints, etc. Get to be quite creative here in the concept.

Only thing I find... peculiar about SG is that some characters that should be renamed as well aren't. I mean, Heroic Terrorcons and Abombinus? I say the gestalts and teams could've changed names in a few cases. SG Devastator composed of Medical Constructicons would be quite odd, no? At least Omega's SG version had DOOM attached to the name. *shrug*

I guess Constructicons SG should have been called Medibots

    Terrorcons into Researchbots

    And

    Technobots into Wreckicons

That defeats the object though. Decepticons (where the cons suffix comes from) are good in that universe, not evil. Therefore it'd be Medicons instead of Medibots.

Constructicons still fits though. It's construction, which is neutral in terms of the faction. Devastator is a little more evil sounding, but no worse than Wrecker in the normal universe.

Terrorcons - yeah, that one is a bit ill fitting. Although there's an established Autobot subgroup named Monsterbots, so using a evil sounding name for good guys isn't totally unprecedented.

Technobots - the name comes from the group being a team of high-technology characters, which is consistent between continuities.

Moreover the important point is that the two universes have kept the names the same on the rest, so randomly changing a few names would sound a bit off. Especially if you pause to consider who "the first of the best" is, and how he's not in the Shattered Glass universe...

Close, but some are a bit off I think. Like Optimus isn't inverting colors but just taking his colors and making them more sinister. So his red turns to a warm purple, his blue a dark blueish gray, and his yellow to gold.

Megatron's colors are some what inspired by his comic colors (black head).

Some characters are simply old schemes repurposed (Sideswipe uses a modified Drench color scheme).

Some (you mentioned Ironhide) use Diaclone colors.

A lot of other characters are just figure repurposings. Such as Arcee is Target Elita-1, Mirage is Henkei Electro Disruptor Rijie, etc)

There are also those with new color schemes on old models with new parts (like Kup, Warpath, the Constructicons, and Ratchet, Omega Doom etc).
