How The Mythbusters Accidentally Punched a Six-Inch Cannonball Hole in a Minivan (Updated) Saw this over at The Escapist. Thankfully nobody was hurt.
Yeah, little oopsie, although, since no one was hurt, the whole bouncing through doors and down halls and such did sound kinda funny
Please don't try this at home...we'll bring it to you! (Mythbusters) 'Mythbusters' cannonball busts through house | Technically Incorrect - CNET News
Either that's one powerful cannon, or the bomb range is way too close to the neighborhood. I wonder what the cannon was made of.
Wow kinda sound somthing out of looney tunes. But I still think the mythbuster have the greatest job ever. Glad no one was hurt
I saw a map of the area on a website and the range definitely seemed far enough away. I wonder what kind of cannon they were testing. I don't think they expected it to go that far.
Saw this on the local news last night. Fun fact: I live about as close to the bomb range as the house that got hit!
The mythbusters did many crazy things throughout the whole show, but this is probably the craziest it can get. They are professionals, what can I say? But, I still watch the show for the science.
Actually when these things were used in war they used to rely on the ball skipping along the ground like a stone over water. It's how you'd use it against infantry. Hard to say, since cannons are rated by weight of shot. Literally how much the ball you load it with weights. Large ones being 64 pounds. As for range I'll put it this way, in ye olden days territorial waters was 3 miles. Which was the range of a cannon fired from the shore. And even a small 3 pounder can go 2 miles.
Yeah, we could hear the blasting at the store. I'm far enough from Tassajara that there was no way it was coming all the way across Dublin to get me, but in all honesty it would have been pretty cool. I'm a fan and if getting my store blasted with a cannonball get me on the show for a cameo then fire away I bet they start doing any future stunts from the old base in Alameda where their workshop is, that way any misfire would go into the water.
