Is anyone here active on any Hot Wheels forum? I'm curious how HW collectors are reacting to this selling out so quickly.

Shame, was on a meeting and I missed it. Was going back and forth on it at $80, but I am not paying aftermarket prices for it. Congrats to those that got one

It's a 100% all-new mold, they need a sizable run to make their money back even at an inflated $80 price tag.

This is always what was going to happen, everyone who had even passing knowledge of the Hot Wheels community knew it would meet their standards.

I worked at Walmart in the early aughties and I remember the people in the toy department complaining about Hot Wheels collectors opening the cases. I suppose that's also why the TRU in my town (back when we had one) has downright hostile to adult collectors. I remember when MP-11 was coming to TRU and I knew it was coming that day but the lady working there was completely unhelpful. I called the one a couple towns north of me and the nice lady there told me they had one on the shelf and she was actually willing to hold it for me! I rushed right up to the store, got down on one knee and asked that wonderful woman to marry me. I'm joking, of course - I was already happily married by this point... to the beautiful TRU employee who helped me get MP Soundwave :p  And no, that's not a joke ;)

You're literally putting on clown make up for the whole internet if you didn't think this was gonna do well with HW collectors. It wasn't a Skyline GTR so I didn't think it'd sell out within the first hour but I always believed it would sell out

    HW collectors are rabid.

Overpriced or not, they can get away with this one. Which I figured was going to happen, there are enough crazy Transformers fans alone I figured this would do okay. Factor in the crazy Hot Wheels collectors and the scalpers... No surprise it sold out. And I'm afraid the Scalpers aren't going to take a loss on this one either.

Don't be surprised if we get another toy like this, but don't expect it to be cheaper. They knew this one would sell out at that price, and they'll be doubly sure about the next one.

Once I get mine in hand I will see if it was worth the money to me; if not I will most likely flip it to another collector here on the boards. If I do like it, it would be nice if they did a Ultra Magnus to go with it.

I tried four TRU stores for that MP-11 and on the fourth as I was walking out I spotted one in a re-shop cart at the front of the store. Lady luck was giving the juice that day.

Agree, I'd be super interested in the opinions of the more knowledgeable people in this space. WAS this a fast sellout? Is 27k a good-sized run? Too big, too small?

I'll be honest, I had no idea Hot Wheels made "premium" $20-$30+ cars until recently. I was mostly familiar with what you can buy at retail

Well, it seems that was it then. Mattel wouldn't sell it to me for $80 because I wouldn't give up my identity beyond, you know, name, address, phone number, and a credit card.

27k is a pretty big run. RLC cars tend to be a few thousand less IIRC. Fast sell out? General consensus is yes. Not as fast as the Skyline from a week ago but still fast. Lots of people had payment issues as well. Price was also a sticker but many caves in the end. Rationale was FOMO and a sense of something special _for Hot Wheels specifically_. We're not likely to ever get another HW Transformers like this at least for a long while. But who knows on that front.

Looks like clearing cookies/cache might have fixed the failed payment issue. Guess I should have tried that. Apparently logging out and checking out as a guest fixes that. So setting up an account ahead of time was a mistake.
