Yeah! He can be his famous Submarine mode!

Hotwheels does boats, planes, NCC-1701 Enterprise, etc...

So a submarine mode would be perfect!

They have even made a few submarines already!

If Missing Link didn't exist this *might* be something, but as is it's too little too late for too much, imo

You can still get either Missing Link Prime for essentially retail on eBay today. What is this then? For specifically 1:64 Hot Wheels fans, I guess?

I didn't realize we had that much intersection with them here.

The oversized box seems like they are over-compensating. It\'s ridiculous the amount of wasted space.

Adding a trailer would push the price well above $100.
And would double the post count in this very thread.

The cutest thing about it and the worst thing about it, is it has genuine G1 style tiny little detachable hands.

I don't know if it's just me, but the whole behind the scenes post came across as bragging to me. Getting weird feels about Hot Wheels scene.

I'm considering trying to get this, but I have a question: what's the aftermarket value going to look like in the long term? When I inevitably go to resell this one day, be it ten years from now or twenty, are Hot Wheels collectors still going to be interested in it? Or will I have to unload it at a loss?

Have they said how many of these they made? Is that information we'll ever know?

It's as I said before. There doesn't need to be intersection. It's like with Lego Optimus. There were lots of Lego fans who aren't TF fans but knew who Optimus was due to him being a pop culture icon. One of my friends who's a pure Lego collector bought Optimus simply because he was a damn cool Lego set.

Same for this. There will be those collectors of Hot Wheels where this will become their first and likely only TF toy. Sometimes in crossovers things are designed to appeal to one side rather than both. In this case he checks off so many things premium HW collectors like...special box and display options. Metal/Metal, Real Riders, and mirrored Spectraflame.

I suppose that's a fair point. It's just definitely not for me.

Transformers get behind the scenes posts all the time. Is it really so weird to hear from another designer that's actually excited to be working on a big crossover project like this?

Nahhh not getting this because it would just stay in the box. And I would also never pay scalper prices in the after market for one either.

I don't think this is once in a lifetime for Mattel, they will make the trailer version.

I agree with Thwipthwip. They will make a version with the trailer but we won’t see it right away. They may make it for next year. Just like Hasbro did with the Masterpiece Optimus Prime.

I don't know about the resell value of Hot Wheels all that much to be honest, I know if you buy a 2 dollar car you are garenteed to make a profit in the future even if it is only a dollar more or so.

But I did see that Mattel Creations made a Gremlins Greta × Monster High doll that sold for 60 dollars.

And online listings now have her at 600 dollars.

So I am thinking this Optimus MIGHT be worth 10× as much in the future.

But that's just me speculating off of a Monster High doll. LOL
