So don't you think it's great that after decades of demanding die cast and accurate G1 transformers, there is now not only one accurate and articulated one, but another in crossover format? You ask, and you get.

Dear moderators: I will personally pay this site’s web hosting bills for a month if you institute a forum-wide “no bitching about the price of limited-edition collectibles” policy.

It doesn't, so ML's paint won't flake anywhere near as bad as this thing's will. Thankfully mattel is offering G1 fans the chance to experience the nostalgia of scraped off die-cast paint that ML has denied us.

That artwork for the truck mode is great. Would love to have it for my Freightliner display.

So you want to take away fans being able to discuss things from a website made so fans can discuss things?

People can complain. That's part of the fun. I like hearing why people think something is worth it or why it's not to them.

This is a cool looking little trinket, but not worth it to me. There are more interesting things to spend $80 on at the moment.

    I don't need an 80 dollar miniature Optimus Prime with premium paint and fancy packaging...I don't, I don't, I don't

I’d be wary, everytime I order from Mattel Creation you get put in a order queue the split second the ordering goes live/when you order, then after a minute of waiting, you finally “payment can’t process” message (this is 100% on Mattel’s end because of the high traffic).

You resort to trying again, again, again, and again… on your phone, tablet, desktop, work devices, other family devices, your neighbor, try it in a box, and with a fox, etc, then by some miracle if it didn’t sell out already, your payment finally processes with one of your methods.

This whole ordeal takes the span of a ~minute if you are lucky… up to ~15, 20, 30 minutes.

And if you don’t get an order in within that ~30 minutes, you are sooo f’d.

One of the most infamous horror stories I recall was Matty Collector Voltron. Seemed cool af but was riddled with QC problems, overall disappointing combined mode, etc.

You got what was basically an upscaled kiddy retail toy for way over the standard price, which for the quality of those things should have been $20-$30 per lion at most

I am heavily ignorant when it comes to Hot Wheels. What is special about this ‘spectraflame’ paint? I see a lot of excitement over it but it doesn’t look good to me, kinda like nail polish in a way. Not trying to hate on it, I’d like to be educated so maybe I’ll appreciate it more.

I mean for $120 ($40 more than this) ML gives you a fully articulated G1 Optimus, trailer, all the OG accessories, stickers, and new stuff like the Matrix and axe.

This is the exact same conversion as the G1 toy at a much smaller size, just the blaster, and no trailer.

And ML is also considered a "premium" collectible.

IMO the grousing is kinda justified

Spectraflame is a paint method that is rooted in Hot Wheels' history; the first ever Hot Wheels released utilized this paint. It’s a semi transparent paint over a shiny zinc base. It has become associated with higher end releases in the Hot Wheels space, as a lot of collectors think of it as a "trademark" attribute of these diecasts (and something you can't get from other diecast manufacturers). The current method [and the one used by Optimus here] calls for polishing the diecast to a mirror finish before paint is laid down, lending to a very reflective/high gloss look. There's a whole colorwheel's worth of spectraflame colors out there that can best be summarized as "eye candy" with its visual pop.

I admit I'm one of the few who believes Spectraflame doesn't belong everywhere or on every casting, but I guess here it makes sense in the context of being a collector-oriented piece and something meant to exude heritage

I see that comparison on this thread a lot, but it is apples and oranges. I get it, and the insanity though.

The pricing and item is really is for Hot Wheels collectors first and foremost, that just happens to be casually Optimus Prime fan?

Hardcore Hot Wheel collectors probably don’t even know or care about Missing Link but want this.

Yeah no matter how much this fandom might complain about the price I have no doubt it will sell out fast thanks to Hot Wheels fans and resellers. I've tried to get a couple things from them with no luck, and I wouldn't have guessed they were that sought after.

So when you say save method of payment, do you mean a browser add on? Like when it asks to save your log in information for Facebook or something?

Or do you mean the website saves a preferred method of payment?

Because I tried the save on the website method and there is no option to do that, that I can see. LOL
